Fans of 90s thriller are ROASTING the lead star's look in movie remake, comparing him to 'Jared Leto's joker': 'Horrible character design'

The physical appearance of the lead actor in the upcoming reboot of The Crow is not going over well with fans of the original 1994 film.

One of the three movie photos released Wednesday by Vanity Fair shows the film’s star, Bill Skarsgård covered in black makeup and tattoos.

An X (formerly Twitter) user is not pleased with the ‘horrible character design’, and like many other members of the social media platform, she has compared his look to that of Jared Leto as The Joker.

‘They Jared Leto’s Jokerfied Eric Drave, THAT’S DISGUSTING,’ another person wrote.

The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 7, 2024.

Skarsgård is taking over the role as Eric Draven from the late actor Brandon Lee, who died while filming a scene for the original film on March 31, 1993.

Lee’s character, Eric Draven, was a musician who along with his fiancée, Shelly Webster was murdered by a gang on the night before their wedding.

He becomes a gothic, supernatural avenger known as The Crow, wearing all dark clothing, and white and black face makeup.

The film was a critical and financial success and it grossed nearly $100 million at the box-office.

Three more movies in The Crow franchise were released in 1996, 2000, and 2005, but none of them were as successful as the first movie.

The 2024 film will be the first movie in The Crow franchise that is a reboot, and Skarsgård’s Joker-like appearance will not be the only thing that makes the remake different from the original.

The 2024 reboot was filmed in Prague and the Czech Republic from July to September, 2022.

It will have a similar plotline and follow Skarsgård’s character who is out to avenge his and his fiancée's deaths.

It’s unclear who will murder Eric and Shelly in the reboot, but the killer or killers are said to be ‘the demons of Shelly Webster's past.’

Despite X users showing their hate toward Skarsgård’s Joker look, a few commenters on Instagram are still excited to see the movie and have praised the actor’s character design.

Instagram users have written nicer comments regarding the design of Eric Draven for the upcoming film, but the actor's look was also compared to Machine Gun Kelly's appearance

Some Instagram users that commented on the film photos wrote about how excited they were to see the film.

'IDC WHAT ANYONE SAYS IM LOVING THIS,' an Instagram user wrote.

Others have continued to compare his look to Jared Leto's The Joke, but have also compared his appearance to Machine Gun Kelly. 

'I like Bill Skarsgård, but this looks like a hard pass,' one person on Instagram wrote.
