MAGA conservative supporters of President Donald Trump celebrated Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's announcement that he would step down from his leadership position in November after the 2024 election.
Supporters of President Donald Trump have long criticized McConnell for quietly working behind the scenes against some of the former president's political goals and thwarting conservative ambitions.
Sen. Rick Scott, who challenged McConnell for minority leader in 2022, was positive about the news.
'I have been very clear and have long believed that we need new leadership in the Senate that represents our voters and the issues we were sent to fight for,' he wrote in a statement.
McConnell beat Scott easily in 2022, as 37 Senate Republicans voted for McConnell, and only 10 supported Scott and one voted present.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) expressed frustration that McConnell was waiting until November to step down for his leadership position.
'I called on McConnell to step down over a year ago. This is good news. But why wait so long - we need new leadership now,' he wrote on X.
Other political figures agreed.
'Why wait? Americans deserve actual conservative leadership,' wrote Kevin Roberts, the president of the conservative think-tank Heritage.
Others were content to just celebrate.
'We’ve now 86’d: McCarthy, McDaniel, McConnell,' wrote right-wing firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on X, referring to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, and McConnell. 'Better days are ahead for the Republican Party.'

'Mitch McConnell stepping down provides a great opportunity for true conservative leadership in the Senate,' wrote Rep. Bob Good R-VA) on social media.
Good endorsed Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) as a possible replacement for McConnell even though eyes are on senators already within Senate leadership, Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) or Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY).
Other conservative media figures expressed their frustration that McConnell was waiting until November to step down.
'McConnell is awful, everyone hates him, and there is zero reason for him to stay in office any longer. He needs to resign now,' wrote Sean Davis, the CEO and co-founder of conservative news website The Federalist.
