A mother in Georgia was charged after a video that captured her preteen son in the trunk of a moving car went viral.

Diana Denise Shaffer, 36, of Duluth, was charged with reckless conduct as well as a seat belt violation after the video showed her 12-year-old son riding in the trunk of a gray Dodge sedan.

The kid appeared to be sitting beside a large object.

Police later said in a press release that the item in question was a baby bassinet Shaffer bought through an online marketplace ad.

Cops said the child had been sitting in the trunk to help stabilize the object.

The mother was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on Tuesday. Her son was placed in the temporary custody of a family member until his mom was bonded out on Wednesday morning.

Officers said someone reported the video to law enforcement on Sunday.

On Monday, they said the surveillance video tool Flock Safety System caught the car driving around Duluth.

A detective was then able to identify the registered owner of the vehicle and meet with her the next day at her home.

It's unclear why Shaffer thought it was a good or safe idea to have her son ride in her trunk like that.

The video that ultimately got her busted appears to have been taken by a fellow driver, who was shocked at what they were looking at on the road.

Online, the video has collected at least hundreds of thousands of views and garnered myriad reactions to the seemingly outlandish parenting on display.

One Instagram user, responding to the video when it was posted to an account called ATLSCOOP wrote: 'I’m calling CPS and the police I got the tag #.'

While it's unclear if that user's report is the one that notified authorities about the incident, police did say it had been someone who saw the video that flagged the attention of the cops.

Another viewer wrote, directly addressing Shaffer: 'Like what possessed your mind to think this was okay like who TF DOES THAT. I’m sorry that shit made me mad considering I AM SOMEBODY MAMA ... Whoever this is don’t need children and this is a prime example of why.'

'This is legit not funny. This is not okay. That baby’s safety is 100% at risk, and I would be concerned about their home life. I truly hope they’re safe,' wrote another concerned viewer.

A fourth individual lashed out at the person who took the video, arguing they could've intervened: 'Instead of recording why not block him off in get the child out the trunk or something but by recording you just as mess up as the driver DATS MY OPINION.'
