NYC subway conductor is slashed in NECK after sticking head out of train window - as police hunt suspect wearing blue vest

An NYC subway worker was slashed in the neck as he stuck his head out of a train window, in an incident union bosses have described as attempted murder. 

Alton Scott, 59, was attacked about 3.40am Thursday while on a southbound A train at the Rockaway Avenue and Fulton Street Station in Brooklyn.

Police are hunting for a suspect who was last seen wearing a blue vest and escaped on foot. 

TWU Local 100 Union President Richard Davis said: 'This is attempted murder. The wound on Mr. Scott's neck is too close to his carotid artery. We're at a breaking point where we can't do our job's safely.'

Authorities said the conductor had his head out of the train window when he was slashed once in the neck. 

He was taken to Brookdale University Hospital where he received 34 stiches and was later released. 

'It's crazy, I ain't gonna lie. For a conductor to get stabbed in the neck, it's just crazy,' a person told WABC

The Transport Worker Union said 25 of Scott's stiches were placed on the deep cut and the other nine helped close the large slash on the side of neck. 

'This heinous act of violence highlights the urgent need for increased safety measures to protect our essential transit workers,' they said in a post.

A picture of Scott in the hospital was also shared as nurses and doctors gathered around him and tended to his deep wound.

Davis called on the MTA and city officials to 'prioritize the deployment of resources to combat these senseless acts of violence.'

'I've said it before, and I'll say it again: statistics mean nothing until the violence stops.' 

'The city is in crisis , and the target is on our back.

'Our thoughts are with Mr. Scott and his family during this difficult time, and we stand in solidarity with all transit workers who continue to bravely serve our city.'
