An Oklahoma woman born 100 years ago is celebrating her 25th birthday.

Mary Lea Forsythe of Sand Springs was born on February 29, 1924 - which is a Leap Day.

Because of this, the centenarian has only been able to celebrate her birthday on the actual day once every four years.

Forsythe's celebrations began this year when she was honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution Osage Hills Chapter of the Centenarians of Oklahoma organization earlier this month.

The organization held a ceremony for her where she was awarded a certificate.

Forsythe is one of about 500 Centenarians in Oklahoma.

She attended schools in Sand Spring growing up and was in her high school's All State Chorus.

'Mary Lea loves all things musical and plays the piano and mandolin,' wrote the officials at Centenarians of Oklahoma on Facebook.

'Her favorite song is Sitting at the Feet of Jesus. Mary Lea reminds us to all read the bible.'

The 100-year-old is also a mother-of-two, a grandmother-of-five, and a great-grandmother of 11 who had multiple careers.

She worked as a secretary at a law firm, once aspired to earn a real estate license, and became a published author.

The accomplished woman took the stage at her centenarian celebration to talk about her life and how she celebrated her birthday on non-leap years.

Forsythe revealed that she would always celebrate her non-leap year birthdays 'two or three times over.'

'I always thought I was blessed,' said Forsythe. 'It was so much fun.'

Forsythe would occasionally celebrate her birthday on March 6, which was the birthday of her late husband, William Wayne Forsythe.

She and her late spouse once spent the date in a diner that offered free breakfast to any customer celebrating their birthday.

According to Forsythe, when their server questioned their birthday story, the centenarian said: 'His birthday is March 6, and mine is February 29. And there is no 29th on the calendar this year. So, mine is March 6.'

The Forsythe's were high school sweethearts who were married from 1942 until his death in 2011.

'He was beautiful, he was handsome, and he had a bass voice that won first in this state when he was in high school,' she stated.

Even though Forsythe will not be celebrating her special day with Wayne, she will be acknowledging the occasion with plenty of others.

Forsythe's party today will be taking place at her local church where 'a large gathering is planned.'

'It's just a fun time to live. I'll tell you, it's a great time to live,' said the birthday woman.

Her number one rule for everyone attending her celebration is to not give her any gifts.
