An Oregon woman has been declared by The Guinness World Records to have the largest female tongue in the world.
Jenny DuVander's tongue is 5.21 inches in circumference - thicker than a soda can.
DuVander was inspired to apply for the record when she was reading the 2023 Guinness World Records book with her son before bed, and she saw a picture of the record holder for the largest male tongue.
Previously unaware that tongue circumference was a record, DuVander immediately measured hers at home and learned that it was at least 12cm.
Later on, her dentist officially measured her tongue with a piece of floss.
Licking the competition-Jenny DuVander's tongue has been dubbed the largest female tongue in the world.
The Oregon woman's tongue has a girth of 5.21 inches, which is thicker than a soda can.
DuVander's dentist measured her tongue with dental floss.
In order to make her tongue larger, DuVander must flex it, which is a good thing because as she noted to GWR: 'If my tongue was always that large, I don't think I'd be able to talk.'
DuVander first discovered her unique talent as a teenager, and says her strong tongue has helped her with her flute playing.
'When you articulate a note on a flute, they actually call it tonguing,' she said.
Not to be pigeonholed in tongue talents, Jenny is also able to flip her tongue upside down and reach her tongue to her nose.
For DuVander, the thrill of being a Guinness World Records title holder has been the most rewarding part of her experience.
She credits her son, Evan, who loves Guinness World Records and reads the books every year, with her decision to apply.
For others wanting to compare the size of their tongue to the female reigning champion, DuVander offered some tips.
'Start by parting your teeth and trying to get your tongue to reach both the top and bottom teeth at one time,' she said.
'Then gradually increase the distance between your teeth.'
