Superstar singer Karol G was pictured in extreme distress as her private jet made an emergency landing in Los Angeles hours after the iconic Billboard Magazine named her as their Woman of the Year.

The tense moments as the Gulfstream G400 touched down in Van Nuys Airport were caught on camera. The jet was forced into the landing after there was a report of smoke in the cockpit.

Karol G, real name Carolina Giraldo Navarro, is a Colombian singer who has released four albums that have gone platinum since 2017.

The 33-year-old was seen getting off the plane Thursday night at Van Nuys Airport after what was termed a 'mid-air emergency.'

According to ABC7, passengers were seen hugging after they made it back to the ground.

The singer was flying in her private plane, which is decorated with the barbed-wire heart tattoo she has on her arm.

The plane took off from Burbank Airport Thursday with 16 passengers and crew members on board.

No details about the flight are known yet other than that it was 'flying east.'

The pilot reported the smoke problem as the aircraft reached the Cajon Pass, about 70 miles east.

The plane made a smooth landing at around 9pm local time at Van Nuys Airport, about 15 miles west of where they took off.

According to the aircraft's tag, it was rented to the singer by VICTOR, a private jet specialist with locations across the world.

A profile on the plane details that it holds 14 people and was manufactured in 2004. It can reach a maximum speed of 550 miles per hour. Its home base is in the Dominican Republic.

In February 2021, Navarro announced in an Instagram post that she had bought a private jet, a Dassault Falcon 2000 which has capacity for ten passengers, from fellow Colombian sensation J Balvin as a birthday gift to herself.

That plane is not the same plane that was involved in Thursday's incident.

Karol G, real name Carolina Giraldo Navarro, is a Colombian singer who has released four albums that have gone platinum since 2017

The singer is currently in the middle of a Latin American tour with no stops slated for the US.

She was due to perform on Friday night in Guatemala. It is unclear if the show will go on as scheduled.

It came just hours after smoke was reported in the cabin of An American Airlines flight leaving New York's LaGuardia Airport for Chicago Thursday morning, USA Today reported.

No injuries were reported and local fire and EMS crews were able to get things under control.

Navarro has won five Latin Grammys and four Billboard Music Awards.

Her most recent album was the first-ever Spanish-language record to debut atop the English language Billboard 200 charts.

Earlier on Thursday, Navarro was announced as Billboard's 2024 Woman of the Year, landing her in the same company as Taylor Swift, SZA and Lady Gaga.

'You know, I feel a lot of responsibility about that. As a woman, I have to say, like in my experience, it was tough, like so many things, to be a girl in this industry, in the music that I do, in urban music,' she said in an interview with the AP earlier this month.

Navarro will be officially handed her Woman of the Year trophy at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 6.

'With her immense talent, Karol G has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and shameless confidence,' said Hannah Karp, Billboard's Editorial Director,in a statement.

'The release of her groundbreaking album Mañana Será Bonito has proven her a force to be reckoned with in both the English and Spanish charts. We are so excited to honor her as Woman of the Year.'

Other award recipients at the Billboard Women in Music Awards include Ice Spice, NewJeans, Victoria Monét, Maren Morris, Kylie Minogue, Young Miko and more.

The awards show will be held at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, hosted by actor and producer Tracee Ellis Ross.
