Former Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants offensive lineman Chad Wheeler has been sentenced to 81 months (six years, nine months) in prison for domestic violence.
Wheeler was found guilty of one count of first-degree assault domestic violence and one count of second-degree assault domestic violence back in November 2023. He was also found not guilty of unlawful imprisonment.
That came nearly three years after his former girlfriend, Alleah Taylor, says he almost killed her during an altercation at their apartment in Washington State.
During his hearing, a jury found that Wheeler 'used force or means likely to result in death' on his Taylor. She posted on Twitter later on Thursday, 'I finally have justice.'
Wheeler, who has bipolar disorder, claims that he was experiencing a 'manic episode' during the incident. Meanwhile, Taylor remains unsure whether the assault stemmed from his mental health issues.

The Seahawks waived Wheeler after the incident took place, with the team saying at the time, 'The Seahawks are saddened by the details emerging against Chad Wheeler and strongly condemn this act of domestic violence. Our thoughts and support are with the victim. Chad is a free agent and no longer with the team.'
Wheeler was booked in early February of 2021 after officers responded to a call in the Seattle suburb of Kent from Taylor and members of her family saying that she had been attacked but locked herself in a bathroom.
Officers arriving to the scene heard a woman screaming, forced their way into the apartment, broke down the locked door, and found Wheeler with Taylor. She was crying and her face was covered in blood with her arm hanging limply beside her, according to court records.
Wheeler was detained - with police saying he was uncooperative and was screaming 'Sorry' and 'I don't beat women!' to officers. Police ended up using a taser on Wheeler, but it reportedly had little effect.
While at the hospital, Taylor spoke to investigators - revealing that Wheeler began choking her and trying to smother her after she refused to 'stand up and bow to him'.

At the hospital, she was covered in marks and bruises attributed to punches she's unaware of
Taylor began losing consciousness and tried fighting back, but Wheeler grabbed and twisted her arm. She was later diagnosed with a fractured humerus bone and a dislocated elbow in her left arm.
After regaining consciousness, Wheeler was by the bed and remarked, 'Wow, you're alive?' - at which point she ran into the bathroom where she called her family and authorities.
Wheeler ended up picking the lock to the bathroom, entered, and began to apologize.
Police arrived at the scene and three officers were required to subdue the 315lb football player.
Taylor arrived at the hospital with notable swelling and bruising - attributed to strikes and punches that she doesn't remember - as well as lesions on her neck, some in the shape of fingermarks.
