Influencers went wild for the microwavable broth-filled dumplings last year, touting them as a quick and tasty staple for comforting winter meals.
One 20-second video showing a 'viral Trader Joe's chicken dumplings hack' for a soup recipe involving just a handful of ingredients gained more than 135k likes.
Another video of an influencer eating another flavor of the dumplings straight from the packet with chili sauce as a 'one-minute lunch' also gained thousands of views.
TikTokers described them as 'delicious, 'juicy' and 'affordable' - while one consumer noted that 'every time I go to Trader Joe's these are sold out'.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Saturday.
Officials said the problem was uncovered after customers complained about finding hard pieces of plastic in their food.

'There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or injury due to consumption of these products,' FSIS said in a statement.
'Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.'
FSIS said it is 'concerned' that some of the products may be in people's freezers.
'Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,' they said.
'These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.'
The soup-filled dumplings are described on the box as a 'wonder to behold both for their display of Chinese food innovation, and for their incredibly comforting flavor profile'.
They can be rustled up in just one to two minutes in a microwave.
It comes after Trader Joe's recalled four products which may contain listeria last month amid a nationwide outbreak linked to contaminated cheese.
The grocer issued warnings over its Chicken Enchiladas Verde, Cilantro Salad Dressing, Elote Chopped Salad Kit and Southwest Salad - which all contain cotija cheese.
The announcement was linked to an FDA recall of Rizo-Lopez Foods dairy items, including contaminated cheese, crema, and yogurt.
Rizo-Lopez products are also sold in a number of major chain supermarkets, including Food City and Whole Foods.
The outbreak has killed two people and affected items were sold nationwide.
The CDC stated that 26 Americans have been sickened and 23 have been hospitalized in 11 states. Two deaths have been reported - one in California and one in Texas.
Trader Joe's advised customers to discard any recalled products or return them to a store for a full refund.
Listeria is an infection normally caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium listeria monocytogenes.
