A snowpocaylpse has raged on for the sixth day in California as the northern part of the state has been slammed with intense winds and snowfall that has caused travel headaches and left people snowed in to start the workweek.

Power outages have been reported in Truckee, Tahoe City and Zephyr Cove as trees have fallen onto power lines along Highway 89.

Ski resorts have closed as the high winds wreaked havoc on the mountains as the National Weather Service said a rare blizzard warning will remain in effect until midnight on Sunday for areas above 6,500ft of elevation.

Dozens of trucks were left stranded on I-80 as officials said that the highway might be re-opened on Monday if there is a 'break in the weather.'

Palisades Tahoe, the largest resort on the north end of Lake Tahoe and site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, closed all chairlifts Saturday because of snow, wind and low visibility.

It planned to reopen late Sunday morning after getting an estimated 5 feet  of snow on the upper mountain as of Saturday night.

'We will be digging out for the foreseeable future,' officials said on the resort's blog.

Crew members from the resort who tried to battle the storm said they 'gave it their best shot' as the risk of avalanches have crept in.

In a post on Sunday, the resort said: 'Monday Operations: We plan to open 18 lifts at Palisades and 7 lifts for the Alpine side. Scheduled lifts are subject to change/delays will occur. We will provide updates after morning assessments.'

Near Lake Tahoe, the Alibi Ale Works brewpub and restaurant was one of the few businesses open on Saturday.

'It´s snowing pretty hard out there, really windy, and power is out to about half the town,' Petkanas said by telephone.

While the extreme storm has impacted many in the Golden State, there have been no reported casualties.

Injuries have also not been reported, but there have been multiple vehicle crashes throughout the region. In one, a truck was seen flipped over, and cars were seen nearly buried in the snow and stranded along a mountain road.

Rudy Islas spent about 40 minutes shoveling his car out before heading to work at a coffee shop in Truckee, California, on Sunday morning. Neither he or his customers were fazed by the snow, he said.

'To be honest, if you´re a local, it´s not a big deal,' he said. 'I think a lot of people are used to the snow and they prepare for it.'

Some have used the unusually intense storm to have a bit of fun as two huskies, Echo and Yuba were seen frolicking through the snow in Tahoe.

Another person decided to see just how deep the snow was as they flipped off of a deck in Tahoe and sunk down, with just their head visible.

The center warned of 'substantial disruptions to daily life and travel' in the Sierra Nevada region due to 'dangerous blizzard conditions'.

An 'additional 1-2 feet of snowfall' is also expected in parts of Nevada and California through Monday morning.

'Avalanches are increasingly likely in the Sierra Nevadas as additional snowfall piles up,' meteorologists at the center said.

'We suggest you stay home, stay warm and don't put yourself and your family in a dangerous situation,' the California Highway Patrol in Truckee said on social media.

More than 10 feet of snow was expected at higher elevations, National Weather Service meteorologist William Churchill said Saturday.

The storm began barreling into the region on Thursday. A blizzard warning through Sunday morning covered a 300-mile stretch of the mountains.

A second, weaker storm is forecast to bring an additional 1 to 2 feet of snow in the region between Monday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service office in Sacramento.

The National Weather Service has warned people in the affected regions not to travel because conditions are still 'extremely dangerous'.

'If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay in your vehicle,' the service said.
