President Joe Biden warns he does not believe ex-president Donald Trump will concede the 2024 presidential election if he loses in November.
Biden made the remarks in a rare Oval Office interview with the New Yorker as he faces a likely rematch with Trump in the general election and has been trailing the Republican frontrunner in a series of recent polls.
'Losers who are losers are never graceful,' Biden said. 'I just think that he'll do anything to try and win.'
Biden said he thinks if he wins, Trump will contest it 'no matter what the result is.'
Trump has long claimed he won the 2020 election despite losing the Electoral College vote as well as the popular vote to Biden by more than 7 million votes.
Biden gave a rare Oval Office interview to the New Yorker where he said be believes Trump will not concede the election if he loses in November stating 'losers who are losers are never graceful'
On the campaign trail, Trump continues to claim without any evidence that he actually won the 2020 election. The ex-president is facing criminal charges for election interference
Just this past weekend, at a rally in North Carolina Trump continued to rail against the results of the last presidential election before a crowd of supporters.
But the ex-president and his legal team for years have failed to provide a single piece of substantial evidence to support their claims of election rigging or interference all while the former president is facing criminal charges for election interference in Georgia and the attack on January 6.
On the campaign trail, Trump has praised the convicted rioters who took part in the January 6 attack, calling them 'hostages.'
A recent poll by CBS News found a majority of respondents believe the losing side will resort to violence after losing in future presidential elections.
According to the New Yorker, it does not sit well with Biden, but he is convinced Americans will 'reject the Trumpist view of politics.'
'How can we, as a democracy, elect anyone President who says violence is appropriate?' Biden said in the interview.
The latest polling has Trump leading Biden in a close potential rematch despite Biden presiding over a roaring economy and having a series of legislative victories under his belt from his first term.
Biden has pushed back on whether he could reach the voters who were less likely to hold Trump responsible for January 6 or believe Biden had actually won - responding to the question with his own bold prediction.
Biden said in the New Yorker interview that he never doubted he would seek a second term in the White House
'Well, first of all, remember, in 2020, you guys told me how I wasn’t going to win? And then you told me in 2022 how it was going to be this red wave?' Biden said. 'And I told you there wasn’t going to be any red wave. And in 2023 you told me we’re going to get our ass kicked again? And we won every contested race out there.'
Biden said he thinks the same thing will happen in 2024.
While Biden has pressed forward with his campaign for a second term, some Democrats have expressed frustration over not having another option to the 81-year-old who had previously labelled himself in 2020 as a 'transition' candidate.
When asked by the New Yorker if there was ever a time he doubted he would run again, Biden said no.
'If I didn’t think that the policies I put in place were best for the country, I don’t think I’d be doing it again. I’m running again because I think two things: No. 1, I’m really proud of my record, and I want to keep it going. I’m optimistic about the future.'
He argued most of what he's done 'is just kicking in now.'
