The City of Miami has posted a scathing break up video online, addressing its relationship with revelers hoping to spend their Spring Break partying on the beach.

In the clip, exasperated residents say things like, 'hey, we need to talk,' 'it's not us - it's you,' and 'you just want to get drunk in public and ignore laws.'

Miami Beach posted a video on their X account, formerly known as Twitter, with the title: 'Hey Spring Break, we're over.'

Although the idea is playful, the tone of the video is serious, with one individual asking, 'Do you even remember what happened last March?'

The video then cuts to a series of newspaper headlines crowd the screen, one of them stating 'Miami Beach issues curfew after 2 people killed during spring break festivities,' while a siren blares in the background.

The headline refers to a pair of fatal shootings that rocked Miami Beach during spring break last year.

After the shootings, crowds seethed in the streets and forced Miami Beach officials to declare a state of emergency with a curfew.

Between February 27 and March 27, 2023, the Miami Beach Police Department made 408 arrests, seized 105 firearms, and issued 7,190 traffic citations.

In 2022, the city imposed a curfew after two shootings on Ocean Drive.

And the year before, in 2021, there were around 1,000 arrests, and dozens of guns were impounded, before the city issued an emergency curfew.

In 2024, the city of Miami Beach, tired of blood and alcohol being spilled in its streets, has said enough is enough.

A woman in the video stares into the camera and say that the events of last March were the city's 'breaking point.'

'So we're breaking up with you,' the woman continues.

Then another woman throws up her hands and says resignedly, 'this isn't safe, so we're done.'

'We are shutting it down. We really mean it this time,' one city commissioner said with regard to Spring Break.

Then the video outlines the punitive and precautionary measures it is taking to deter would-be spring breakers.

'This March, you can expect things like curfews, bag checks, and restricted beach access, DUI checkpoints, $100 parking, and strong police enforcement for drug possession and violence.'

The city is also taking other draconian measures- shutting liquor stores down at 8pm, rigorous enforcement of open-container and noise laws, and closing parking garages in South Beach.

Towing fees will be doubled to $516, and the city reserves the option to shut down cafes on Ocean Drive if necessary.

There will also be an extensive police presence.

In 2023, when Miami Beach imposed a curfew after the shootings, revelers still flooded the streets, jumping on a car, and trashing a slushy shop.

By ratcheting up pressure on spring breakers, the city hopes to end the celebration for good, and to rid their city of libertine college students and carousing crowds.

As City Commissioner David Suarez said, 'We are shutting it down. We really mean it this time. We are not taking half-measures. We are really doing everything we can to end Spring Break.'

At the end of Miami Beach's video, a man on a park bench says, 'Maybe we can talk when you're done with your Spring Break phase, but until then...'

'WE'RE BREAKING UP WITH SPRING BREAK,' appears in all caps on the screen.

Despite crackdowns on parking and bar closures, spring breakers are set to flock to Miami in droves, with many undeterred over the newly imposed restrictions.

After news broke of the spring break restrictions in South Beach, young people took to TikTok to share how they will work around them - claiming Miami is still the hot place to be.

Now, the spring break enthusiasts are going viral for expressing defiance against the new rules, with one TikTok user saying, ‘Curfews aren't a problem, we get lit as soon as we wake up!’

Similar messages echoed across social media platforms, with users claiming Miami's Spring Break is not canceled.
