A man has slammed a fellow train passenger who left his bag on an extra seat and then pretended to be asleep before firing off at him when he moved it.

The anonymous traveler, who is based in the US, took to Reddit to detail the frustrating situation that saw a man hogging an extra seat with his bag.

He explained that he tried to get his attention multiple times before taking matters into his own hands and putting his bag on the floor next to him.

However, when the other man became angry that he touched his belongings, he began questioning if he was in the wrong and has now asked social media users for their advice in a thread titled, 'Am I the a**hole?

At the beginning of the post, he noted that the incident had taken place a few weeks ago, but it was still on his mind.

He then said: 'I was on the train going to work in the morning, it was packed and some guy was sleeping with his bag occupying the seat next to him.'

He noted that after getting tired of standing, he attempted to get the attention of the rider.

'I didn’t feel like standing so I repeatedly tried getting his attention buy saying excuse me.

'After four to five times, I gave up and just put his bag on the floor so I could sit down,' the traveler added.

After giving up and putting his belongings on the floor, he was met with fury.

'The literal second I put the bag on the floor he wakes up, glares at me and asks what the f*** I’m doing before angrily grabbing the bag and making a big show of looking through it before putting it on his lap,' the Reddit user said.

The reddit user noted that he told the man that seats were for people and not bags.

'I responded that seats aren’t for bags, sat beside him, and that was the end of it except for the occasional angry glare,' he said.

At the end of the post, the Reddit user noted they don't feel guilty but questioned if they were the a**hole' in the situation.

People flooded the comments section and defended the Reddit user while slamming the other unnamed traveler.

One person said: 'NTA. Bags do not get seats of their own. Period. You tried, he wouldn't wake up, so he gets his stuff touched.'

Someone else added: 'I think I would have just sat his bag out of spite, but nah, would have done the same at the very least.'

'NTA. He's lucky someone didn't do a grab-n-go on him. It's public transport, not private sleeping quarters,' someone else wrote.

One user added: 'NTA but he was. You tried getting his attention then took matters into your own hands.'

Another person added:  'He didn't sleep. He pretended to so he didn't have to answer and hoped you would just give up and leave him alone. NTA. You don't have to stand when there's seats available.'

Someone else added: 'He was a jerk and you had every right to do what you did. The seat next to him was not for his bag!'

'NTA what a pet peeve,' another person commented.

Someone else added: 'NTA. He was indeed faking being asleep.'

One user added: 'NTA. He was faking. And unless he paid two fares, his bag doesn't get a seat.'
