A family's bi-weekly get-togethers will never be the same, thanks to a male Reddit user.

The man, 23, created a post on the social media platform yesterday and wrote about why he will no longer pay for his future in-laws' food.

He and his fiancée, 22, ate at a restaurant that's owned by the original poster's (OP) uncle last week.

'I only asked them to cover the tip for the waitress, which they agreed to do so. The total bill was over $240, and I paid,' he wrote.

The Reddit user then had a conversation with his 21-year-old cousin, who was their waiter that night.

The OP's cousin told him a few days ago that his fiancée's family only left him a $1 tip.

'I was shocked and disappointed because a $1 tip is insultingly low, especially considering I had treated them to alcohol and dessert,' he wrote.

'So, I discussed this issue with my fiancée, but her family insists they never tip or only pays like 1 dollar for tip at restaurants/general services.'

The Reddit user also revealed that this was not the first time his fiancée's family left one of his relatives a $1 tip at the restaurant.

The OP decided that enough was enough and that their 'bi-weekly restaurant outings would have to change.'

'I told her that I had only paid for their meals as a kind gesture,' he stated in the post.

The Reddit poster's future in-laws asked if he could buy their food again next week, but the 23-year-old refused to do so.

'I responded that they'll need to cover their own expenses for their meal,' he revealed in his post.

'I didn't want to confront them about their habit of tipping only a dollar, so I decided to handle it differently this time and simply pretend to cover the tip for them.'

His fiancée's family was not too happy with the OP's response and were not afraid to express their feelings.

According to the Reddit user, his fiancée's family accused him of being 'ungrateful' and argued that 'they were the ones taking time to meet up with me bi-weekly.'

The family also insisted that it was fair for him to keep paying for their food because his family is wealthy.

The OP's fiancée wasn't thrilled about the change either, but she was okay with it.

'My fiancée was surprisingly on my side, she knew her family had this issue,' he wrote.

'She just didn't have courage to inform them about it.'

Her family is still not happy with him about the matter and have refused to talk to him.

The OP also noted that his fiancée's family members have called her more than once and have suggested that she break up with him.

The man's Reddit post has gotten more than 1,000 and many of them are from users who say he's 'NTA' (not the a******) in this situation.

Several Reddit users have dissed the family for only leaving a $1 tip.

'$1 is almost more insulting than not leaving a tip at all in my opinion,' one person wrote.

'Sucks but whatever...leaving $1 means you for sure remembered the tip, but just wanted to be a d***.'

The OP responded to some of the users comments and revealed that his fiancée's family has been banned by 'a few restaurants' due to their poor tips.

Other users have dissed the OP's fiancé, and one even wrote that she is just like her parents.

'She knew they only left 1 $ and did nothing to avoid this and show respect to your family because they own the restaurant,' that person wrote.

'She just hide it a little bit better until you two are married, you need a prenup.'
