People on the web have dragged the 26-year-old founder of a storage company after he bizarrely claimed that he 'invented' drinking wine with his girlfriend.

Collin Rutherford is the founder of the storage company GreenBox Storage and frequently shares a glimpse of his life as an entrepreneur on social media.

However one of the New York-based startup founder's most recent insights into his personal life triggered a furious - and very sarcastic - response, when he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to boast about 'inventing' the concept of kicking back with a bottle of wine and enjoying some 'quality time' with loved ones.

In the post, Collin explained how he and his partner came up with what they refer to as 'bottle time' during a 2023 blizzard, explaining that it involves both of them locking their phones away so they can talk and truly focus on one another, while partaking in a bottle of their favorite wine.

However, his claim that he created the simple act of drinking wine and chatting with a partner - despite the buzzy label he gave it - sparked a wave of backlash from other users, who pointed out that, no matter what you call it, the concept has been enjoyed by many for years.

Alongside a photo of Collin and his girlfriend with a bottle of wine in each of their hands, he wrote: Do you know what a "bottle night" is? Probably not, because my girlfriend and I invented it during a 2023 blizzard in Buffalo, NY.

'We lock our phones away, turn the TV off... Each grab a bottle of wine, and talk. That's it, we simply talk and enjoy each other's presence.

'We live together, but it's easy to miss out on "quality time". What do you think? Do you have other methods for enjoying quality time with your partner?'

People then flooded the comments section and fired off at the storage company founder.

One person said: 'How did you take and post this photo without a phone?'

Someone else wrote: 'You invented hanging out and drinking?'

Another user added: 'I think people figured that out before you fyi.'

One user teased: 'You invented hanging out and drinking?'

'Congrats on inventing conversation,' commented another user.

Someone else added: 'You have replaced phone dependency with alcohol dependency! congrats!'

Another person wrote: 'And yet you felt compelled to post about it.'

Following the flood of hate comments, Collin took back to the social media platform to address the criticism he had received.

He said: 'If you want to see the dark side of humanity, read the comments on this post.

'It's shocking too see the horrible things people will post. I refuse to look at the comments anymore.'

And while the majority of social media users slammed him, there were a few people who applauded him for his relationship advice
