A 68-year-old beauty and lifestyle guru has revealed why completely getting rid of moisturizer from her routine has changed her skin for the better.

Melissa, from East Tennessee, shares her skincare philosophies on both her YouTube and Instagram accounts, as well as fashion and makeup tips geared towards a mature audience.

In 2015, she became an overnight sensation as she gained viral fame not only for her ageless looks but her fun videos titled, 'Get A Hair Bump Overnight' and 'Sort Of Lash Extensions.'

In a recently resurfaced Instagram Reel post from April, she reiterated to viewers why she doesn't moisturize and why quitting the practice has helped her skin to look younger and better than ever.

'I wanted to talk about something that I get, not harassed [about] on YouTube, but people just tell me I'm absolutely wrong and some people can get kind of a little bit upset about it, and that's the fact that I don't moisturize my skin,' Melissa began the Reel.

'I haven't moisturized my skin in a century, I used to and my skin looked worse,' she continued.

She emphasized that everyone had different skin, and not every technique or product was 'universal.'

'Now, beauty product companies will tell you have to do this, this, this and this, because that's how they make their money, but when I quit moisturizing, my skin improved,' Melissa revealed.

'I just let the Retin-A, the vitamin C serum and the acids that I use just keep a slow exfoliation going, and my skin just started producing more moisture on it's own.'

Melissa went on to explain that she never had oily skin, but since she stopped moisturizing, her skin now produced its own moisture.

'It just stimulates my skin to produce more moisture,' she explained about her beauty method.

'I know dermatologists have said on YouTube that's not so, but it is for me, so we're just not all the same.'

According to Harvard Health, moisturizers do work to help combat dry skin, but the experts also recommend to use a mild soap and take warm, not hot, showers to help soothe parched skin.

However, in the comments section of Melissa's Instagram Reel, many users confessed to forgoing their moisturizer as well.

'Me too. Gave my skin a chance to create its own sebum. We are all different and sometimes this also changes,' one person wrote.

Another agreed, 'My mom is 80 and has never used moisturizer. Her skin is beautiful. There’s no right or wrong answer in my humble opinion.'

'Thank you! I can't moisturize my skin. It feels awful and it breaks it and I'm 57. So I'm not starting now! I moisturize from the inside by drinking lots of water,' someone else typed.

Others in the comments were simply stunned by her ageless looks.

'Heck whatever it is, it's definitely working on you, gorgeous!' one user declared.

'You do what's right for you. You're beautiful and know what works for your skin. My face hurts if I don't moisturize, so I have to. You're fortunate that you don't have to,' someone else shared.

In a recent video posted to her YouTube channel, Melissa shared an updated skincare routine.

She admitted that she did order a moisturizer after noticing skin changes while battling breast cancer, but decided at the end of the day, it still wasn't right for her.

Melissa purchased a cream from Lancôme, but ended up returning it.

'I used it a bit, and I realized, I don't like to moisturize,' she lamented.

'My skin sagged, it was heavy, and the wrinkles were worse. They just were.'

In the clip, she also announced that she had 'made the decision' to never get any Botox, filler injections or even plastic surgery due to her health conditions, and for other health reasons in the future.

'I'm going to do the best that I can with skincare,' she said.

In a 2015 interview with Forbes, the beauty guru revealed that one of her favorite parts of her platform was getting to talk to 'amazing women.'

'We have truly formed a close bond,' she told the outlet at the time.

'It isn't easy being an over-60 woman in a youth obsessed society. But I feel like we are starting to prove we can still be vital and interesting as we age.'
