Local police are currently engaged in a stand-off with a barricaded suspect in the Route 28 and Bearses Way area of Hyannis, according to local reports.
Police were called to an address on St John Street at 7:41am for report of an individual holding a person at knifepoint.
The caller advised a police dispatcher that the occupants of the home were able to leave the residence but the suspect remained inside, NBC reported.
Barnstable police arrived on scene and contained the suspect inside the home before the Cape Cod Regional SWAT Team arrived shortly afterwards and took command of the incident.
Negotiations with the suspect were ongoing as of 12:30 pm and a shelter-in-place remains in place for a one mile radius, Barnstable police said.
'No one is permitted into our schools or to exit them, but school operations within the building will continue,' the district wrote in an email to the school community.
The town's transportation and facilities office is also under the shelter-in-place order.
