Dean Phillips DROPS OUT of the Democratic presidential race against Biden: Longshot candidate who argued Joe, 81, is too old end campaigns after dire Super Tuesday

Longshot Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips dropped out of the 2024 race Wednesday afternoon after failing to gain traction in the primaries.

The Minnesota lawmaker and heir to one of America's largest liquor dynasties  suspended his campaign after a disastrous Super Tuesday where President Joe Biden dominated virtually every race.

Phillips, 55, stepped into the race in October arguing that Biden, 81, was too old to run again and the Democrats needed fresh blood.

But he failed to win his home state of Minnesota on Tuesday night and even fell behind 'uncommitted' voters protesting against Biden's handling of the Gaza war.

'In 2011, I hosted then VP Biden at my home. Most notable was his empathy and kindness to my daughters and the catering staff, with whom he sat and had ice cream (surprise-surprise)' Phillips wrote on Twitter Wednesday.

'His decency and wisdom were rarities in politics then, and even more so today.

'Over a decade later, the only thing that has changed is time - which slows all of us down a bit, including presidents.

'I ran for Congress in 2018 to resist Donald Trump, I was trapped in the Capitol in 2021 because of Donald Trump, and I ran for President in 2024 to resist Donald Trump again - because Americans were demanding an alternative, and democracy demands options.

'But it is clear that alternative is not me. And it is clear that Joe Biden is OUR candidate and OUR opportunity to demonstrate what type of country America is and intends to be.

'To all who supported my effort, thank you. We will continue the important work to ensure a more responsive, democratic, and generationally diverse political system.

'But today, in light of the stark reality we face, I ask you join me in mobilizing, energizing, and doing everything you can to help keep a man of decency and integrity in the White House.

'That's Joe Biden. Let's use invitation, not confrontation, to welcome Haley supporters, Trump supporters, and Uncommitted supporters to get this done. It's our calling, it's our legacy, and and it's our time.

Phillips had previously said he would bow out of the race after the Super Tuesday races if he didn't see a path.

As returns came in Tuesday night, Phillips sent out a series of self-deprecating missives.

'Congratulations to Joe Biden, Uncommitted, Marianne Williamson, and Nikki Haley for demonstrating more appeal to Democratic Party loyalists than me,' he posted on X Tuesday night.

In another post he responeded to an X user who pointed out that he had won one country.

'I've seen enough,' Phillips said, a cheeky reference to what Cook Political Report's David Wasserman says whe he's ready to call a victor of a race.

As Phillips was exiting the race, another longshot hopeful emerged - Baltimore-based investor Brian Palmer, who shocked the political world and sent everyone to Google, when he won Tuesday's caucus in American Samoa.

Palmer beat Biden by 11 votes in an election in which 91 individuals participated.

Also still in the Democratic race is self-help guru Marianne Williamson, who pulled out in early February after a disappointing showing in the Nevada Democratic primary.

But last week she made an about-face after earning more votes than Phillips in Michigan's Democratic race.

'We cannot sit idly by while the D.C. political class sleepwalks this country into disaster,' she wrote last Wednesday to supporters.

'I will respond to the cult-like personality of Donald Trump with a light-filled vision of hope and possibility,' she continued. 'We will become once again a "government of the people, by the people, and for the people" at a time when corporate interests have taken Washington hostage,' she said.

Before Super Tuesday polls were even closing, Williamson was adding new events to her calendar, with plans to campaign in Vancouver, Washington on Thursday ahead of the state's March 12 primary.
