Sen. Ted Cruz demanded MSNBC host Jen Psaki apologize to the family of 2-year-old boy allegedly slain by an illegal migrant after she mocked voters for their immigration concerns.

After Super Tuesday exit polling from the Virginia indicated voters' top concern this election is immigration, Psaki, a Virginia resident, was incredulous.

The former press secretary and her fellow MSNBC host Rachel Maddow joked that the real threat facing Virginia voters comes from West Virginia and not illegal migrants.

'Jen Psaki & Rachel Maddow owe Jeremy Poou-Caceres’s family an apology,' the Texas Republican wrote on X.

'He was a 2-year-old just killed by an illegal alien less than a 30 minute drive away from Psaki’s $1.7 million home in Arlington, Virginia.'

Cruz was referencing the high-profile murder of two-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres, who police say was shot and killed by a migrant illegally in the U.S. while out on a walk with his mother in the D.C. suburbs.

Jeremy and his mother were both shot on February 8 in a Maryland neighborhood outside of D.C. - close to Psaki's Virginia home - killing the boy and wounding the mother, according to law enforcement.

Authorities later announced the suspects involved in the case are in the country illegally, and that Jeremy and his mother were not the intended targets.

One of the suspects, Nilson Trejo-Granados, a 25-year-old from El Salvador, has been charged with first and second degree murder in the case.

He previously been arrested multiple times in the U.S., according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) records.

In March of last year, he was charged by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) with theft. That arrested prompted ICE to lodge an Immigration Detainer on the criminal.

The local police department, however, refused to honor the detainer and subsequently released Trejo-Granados back into the public.

He was yet again arrested by the MCPD in September of 2023. He was charged with theft and attempting to obstruct and hindering.

ICE again unsuccessfully lodged an Immigration Detainer that was not honored.

Even before any of that, a DOJ immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey, ordered the man's removal from the United States in November of 2022.

'I live in Virginia. Immigration was the No. 1 issue,' Psaki said Tuesday, seemingly surprised.

Maddow shot back, 'Well, Virginia does have a border with West Virginia.'

Another MSNBC host chimed in: 'Build the wall!'

Despite the pundits' jokes about immigration, voters don't think its a laughing matter.

Exit polls in North Carolina, Virginia and California all found that immigration is among voter's top priorities.

Further, exit polls found Trump's immigration policies are widely acceptable in Virginia, with 64 percent of voters trusting the former president more on border security.

Americans now say immigration is the top issue facing the nation — with 28 percent of voters calling it the main concern, ahead of the state of the government and the economy.

Additionally, a recent poll released this week found that a majority of U.S. voters now want a barricade along the U.S.-Mexico border, the first time in history a majority of voters have wanted a physical barrier.
