A Los Angeles woman has reunited with the man who saved her life in a fiery car crash that took her mother's life nearly 27 years ago.
On October of 1997, Rebecca Anderson and her mother, Linda Wageman, were driving through an intersection when they were broadsided by a driver fleeing the police.
The white van they were riding in burst into flames from the crash. Although Anderson had survived, her mother died at the scene.
But had it not been for her Daniel Mena, Anderson could have suffered the same fate as her mother.
Since the accident, Anderson had thought she was saved by first responders as she had only regained consciousness at the hospital. That was, until she received a letter from Mena.

Mena explained that he was the one who pulled Anderson out of the burning vehicle. The two had kept in contact and had decided to finally meet in person - the first time since the night of the accident.
'I went over there and saw [Anderson], dragged her into the liquor store,' Mena told KTLA 5. 'I tried getting the mother out, but it got too hot, I just couldn’t do it.'
Men said he had wondered what had happened to Anderson after he rescued her.
'I constantly thought what happened to her afterwards?' Mena said. 'Just wondering if she lived a fruitful life?'
Anderson and Mena had kept in touch through phone calls and text messages leading up to the day they met in person.

Needless to say, the reunion was tear-jerking.
'He saved my life that day,' Anderson said. 'I was unconscious so I don’t remember too much of what happened.'
Anderson was apprehensive about the reunion with Mela, as she literally owed her life to him, and felt a face-to-face interaction was necessary.
'Just to meet each other,' she said. 'And maybe find some sort of closure.'
Anderson, now a grandmother, and Mena said they plan to meet again in the future.
