The Stir Crazy actor, who passed away in 2005 at age 65, had poured rum all over his body and set himself on fire after days of freebasing cocaine — an incident he referenced in his comedy special Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip.
He ran down a Los Angeles street at the time and had to be calmed down by the police before he was taken to the hospital, where he spent six weeks in recovery.
His widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor, later classified the life-threatening episode as a suicide attempt in the 2019 documentary I Am Richard Pryor.
'He said to me, "I've decided what to do. I have to do this otherwise I don't know how I'm going to get out. There's no way out of this so you need to leave so you don't get hurt too,'" she explained, per People.

Adding to the charm, two bedrooms on the lower level each feature their own sitting rooms and share a well-appointed bathroom.

Lee and Pryor initially tied the knot in August 1981 but ended up divorcing the following year.
Despite their separation, the couple maintained an on-and-off relationship over the years.
When Pryor faced a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1986, he earnestly pleaded for Lee to return to him permanently, and eventually, she acquiesced.
