A dermatologist has revealed three cosmetic procedures that will help mitigate those wrinkles around the upper lip and nose caused by things like drinking from the straw of your popular Stanley Cup or even vaping.

The advice was shared by California-based dermatologist Dr. Azadeh Shirazi in a video posted to TikTok late last month.

Dr. Shirazi, who is the founder of namesake brand AziMD Skincare, often takes to her social media accounts to share her various skincare tricks, tips and related hacks.

In her new video, Dr. Shirazi warned that drinking from the the viral Stanley Cup could cause lip lines in the future, and what you can do to prevent that from happening.

Say goodbye to smoker's lines! Dr. Shirazi's top tips

  • Consider getting Botox injections in the upper lip area to reduce how powerful your pursing is
  • Filler can also be injected into the lip, the lip border, or the lines themselves to add structure back
  • You can also try a laser resurfacing treatment to help smooth the lines out

'The smoker's lines, or lip lines, are formed from the pursing motion and the loss of collagen that happens with time,' Dr. Shirazi began.

She then offered three different cosmetic options patients have to treat those pesky lines - the first one being Botox.

'One is a little bit of Botox or neuromodulator in the upper lip area that helps reduce how powerful your pursing motion is,' she explained.

Botox, or Botulinum toxin, are cosmetic injections that work to relax the muscles, per Cleveland Clinic.

Most of the time, they are used to reduce wrinkles and fine lines in the face and hide other symptoms of aging.

Next on Dr. Shirazi's list of advice was getting a bit of filler in the upper lip to hide these smoker's lines.

'Adding a little bit of fillers in the actual lip, the lip border, maybe even some in the lines help because again, they're adding structure back in, structure that we lose around our mouth,' the board-certified dermatologist advised.

Dermal fillers are used in a similar manner as Botox to prevent the look of aging, per Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The first tip to prevent smoker's lines that Dr. Shirazi suggested was to inject the upper lip with a bit of Botox

'The filler also helps fill in those lip lines and plump them up, made up of hyaluronic acid,' she explained.

Last but not least, Dr. Shirazi suggested a laser treatment to reduce the appearance of these lines.

Laser resurfacing treatments use a laser device to reduce the appearance of wrinkles - including smoker's lines, as well as scars, redness and even skin pigmentation, according to Mount Sinai.

'Laser resurfacing helps smooth them out by stimulating the collagen and improving texture and tightening the skin there,' she said in the clip.

In the comments section of her video, some people admitted that they tried to avoid pursing their lips while drinking out of a straw.

'Just drink through the corner of your mouth...' one person wrote.

Another agreed,  'You can drink from a straw without pursing your lips.'

'I take my top off my Yeti,' someone else admitted.

Others, however, encouraged commenters to embrace aging and not worry about the consequences of drinking out of a straw.

'Ladies, it’s OKAY to have lines. It’s part of aging. We are obviously not going to look 25 when we are 70. Enjoy your straws and Stanley’s,' the user wrote.

Another chimed in, 'No this is what aging looks like idk why we as a society reject getting old. it's normal. life is short drink however you want.'
