New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas went on the offensive against a Louisiana reporter who claimed the team would cut him.
Thomas went after New Orleans Times-Picayune reporter Jeff Duncan, who posted a column about how the Saints were on the verge of releasing the wideout.
'Jeff Duncan funny how they planning on releasing me if I was on a 1 year deal,' Thomas tweeted. 'Don't fall for it he the same dude that tried to be my friend in season after saying I wasn't the same player in training camp.'
Not content with just one tweet, Thomas kept going: 'Jeff Duncan is a h*e trying to stay relevant so let's speak on it.
'The Saints leak information to him to try to ruin players value but see I'm not broke so I can speak on it. He is broke so he need clicks. Go look at all his articles that never end up being true.'
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas targeted a newspaper reporter on Twitter
He went after reporter Jeff Duncan for saying that the Saints were going to cut him despite Thomas only being signed to New Orleans on a one-year deal at the start of the 2023 season
By announcing they're cutting him, the Saints would avoid paying Thomas a $2.2m bonus
Thomas then found a picture of Duncan on the internet and posted it with the caption, 'Look at this [clown emoji] y'all think he know ball yeah right. Y'all really clicking links to what he write'.
Last season, the Saints signed Thomas to a one-year, $10m deal - but cutting him now would prevent him from earning a roster bonus of $2.2m guaranteed.
In 2023, Thomas played in only 10 games after suffering a knee injury in a Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings that saw him miss the rest of the season.
Thomas is a former NFL Offensive Player of the Year that caught for 1,725 yards and hauled in an NFL record 149 catches in the 2019 season.
But since then, he's only played 20 games over the course of four seasons due to injuries.
Last season, he caught for only one touchdown and 448 yards on 39 receptions.
Later reports said that Thomas would be cut by the Saints on March 13, the first day of the 2024 league year.
