Age is no barrier for Whoopi Goldberg who left her co-hosts on The View in utter shock today when she admitted that one of her last relationships was with a man 40 years her senior.

The 68-year-old Sister Act star let her recent romantic rendezvous slip during a heated panel discussion about the backlash over the age difference between Anna Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in their new film, The Idea of You.

Whoopi confessed age is 'no concern' to her when embarking on a relationship, before coyly revealing her multi-decade-age difference love affair.

'12 [years] is not that bad,' Sara Haines, 46, said during the Hot Topics segment, in response to the real-life age difference between Anne, 41 and Nicholas, 29.

'I dated a guy that was 18 years older than me,' she continued. '11 seems more acceptable to my parents.'

Joy Behar, 81, who tied to knot to long-term partner Steve Janowitz in 2011 after almost 30 years of dating, declared she  'likes them younger'- pointing out her husband is seven years her junior.

'[Steve] drives at night, he does the heavy lifting, he's sharp as a tack - when I get old and decrepit he'll wheel me around,' the longtime panelist said. 'I don't want them old.'

After pointing out that Sara and Sunny Hostin, 55, were also married to younger men, the question was then posed to Whoopi; who admitted she's dated both younger and older men

'I go from here to here,' she said, gesturing an expansive age with her arms.

'Because I'm not, you know... your age is not what's going to get me into your arms,' she said.

'It's not your age that I'm concerned about. Unless you're under 18 in which case I can't, I can't at all but, you know.'

'A big gap could be problematic,' Joy mused.

'Because when you're like 20 and 40 is good and even 40 and 60, but now 60 and 80 gets a little-,' Joy explained, before Whoopi cut in.

'Actually, I just have to say this to you, one of the last relationships I had, he was 40 years older than me,' she revealed.

'40? Is he still alive?' Joy exclaimed, as Whoopi nodded.

Whoopi didn't divulge any information about her older beau, or when the relationship took place.

However the TV show host has been married - and divorced - three times in the past.

She was first married to Alvin Martin, four years her junior, in 1973 from 1979, with whom she shares her only daughter named Alexandrea.

She was then married to cinematographer David Claessen, three years her junior, in September 1986 and they divorced in 1988. Her final marriage was to union organizer Lyle Trachtenberg ending in 1995.

She went on to date James Bond star Timothy Dalton, who is nine years older than her, from November 1990 until April 1993, and had a high-profile affair with Cheers actor Ted Danson in 1993, between her second and third marriages.

The Ghost actor was in a long term relationship for several years with actor Frank Langella, who is 17 years her senior, with their relationship ending in 2001.

She dated businessman boyfriend Michael Visbal after, but they ended things in 2004, with Whoopi stating she didn't wish to marry again.

Despite being in several  high-profile relationships over the year, Whoopi has made it clear in recent years that she 'doesn't want to live with anybody' and has stated that being single is her personal choice

In 2023, Whoopi shared her thoughts on marriage during an episode of The View and admitted she was 'dancing and prancing' every single time her relationships ended in divorce.

Whoopi has been plagued by rumors regarding her sexuality over the years, with many questioning if she was a lesbian.

However, during an interview with Raven-Symoné on The Best Podcast Ever in 2023, Whoopi shut down those rumors after her former co-host told her: 'You give me lesbian vibes!'

'Women have been asking me this for as long as I've been around, I am not a lesbian. But I know lots of them, and I've played them on television,' Whoopi said.

She continued: 'But I have always had lesbian friends because they're just my friends,' before recalling a conversation she had with one of her pals.

'I'm not gonna kiss you, but I'll kiss you over here, I'll do this but I'm not going to do this... And they're like, "OK!"' she explained.
