Massive emergency response at Washington's Joint Base Lewis-McChord after unfounded 'active shooter' reports

There was a massive police response after reports of an 'active shooter' at US Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. 

The base has since posted to social media and said that 'there was no active shooter incident today at JBLM.' 

'Earlier this afternoon, police responded to several reports of a potential active shooting incident,' the base said. 

'Law enforcement has confirmed no shots were fired and no active shooting incident occurred.' 

The base initially took to X and said that law enforcement was addressing the incident near Building 2026 on Lewis Maine, which is between Liggett Avenue and Pendleton.

The base is home to I-Corps and the 62nd Airlift Wing. I Corps is part of the US Army Pacific and is currently overseeing army units in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Army headquarters is home to more than 40,000 soldiers across the Indo-Pacific. Besides Washington, members are also stationed in Alaska and Hawaii

The facility is a training and mobilization center for all services. It was created in February 2010 after the US Army's Fort Lewis base merged with the US Air Force's McChord Air Force Base. 

The base provides swift equipment responses to Tacoma, Seattle and Olympia's Deepwater ports. 

According to the base's website, trainings, known as 'day and nighttime demolitions' were scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
