Both have denied wrongdoing.

The authorities caught on to the WhatsApp messages when a complaint was filed in 2022 by the cybercrime unit of Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency.

The agency made the complaint after a recipient of the 'blasphemous' material reported he had received the messages from three different phone numbers.

They called it 'obscene material'.

The 17-year-old was given a life sentence for sharing the material.

The minimum age to receive capital punishment in Pakistan is 18.
