The official transcript of Joe Biden's State of the Union address captures in black and white the moment when a Gold Star father heckled the president and was thrown out of the House chamber.
'MR. NIKOUI: Remember Abbey Gate,' it records, referencing the site of the attack on Kabul airport that killed 13 Americans as Biden withdrew troops from Afghanistan.
'THE PRESIDENT: Thirty percent, they went up --
'MR. NIKOUI: United States Marines! Kareem Mae’Lee Nikoui!'
What it fails to capture is the family heartbreak, two sons cuts down in their prime, that led a dead Marine's father to end up cuffed by Capitol Police and accused of 'crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.'
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, 20, of Norco, Calif. - one of 13 service members who were killed during the disastrous 2021 exit from Afghanistan
Steven Nikoui's life was turned upside down on August 26, 2021. That was the day his son Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui was killed by a suicide bomber who targeted American troops during the chaotic withdrawal ordered by Biden.
He was 20 years old, born in the same year that the war in Afghanistan started. And he died with 12 comrades as the last casualties of America's longest war.
He was only two years out of high school.
'They sent my son over there as a paper pusher and then had the Taliban outside providing security,' said Nikoui at the time.
'I blame my own military leaders… Biden turned his back on him. That's it.'
Biden overrode the advice of generals and blindsided allies to push through with the evacuation.
Assumptions that the internationally recognized government would survive proved wrongheaded and they suffered defeat after defeat as the Taliban realized their backers were leaving.
It meant Taliban gunmen closed on the capital Kabul before the U.S. could get out.
The result was that American officers had to rely on the militants they spent 20 years fighting to provide a security cordon around the airport, a cordon that ultimately failed to prevent a lone bomber detonating his bomb at Abbey Gate, one of the crowded entry points.

More than 160 Afghans also died.
Biden traveled to Dover Air Force base for a ceremony known as a 'dignified transfer' when the American remains were returned home.
And Norco, California, had a ceremony for its fallen son.
A procession of horses and cars followed the flag-draped coffin to a public funeral.
But his mother later described how while the rest of the world moved on, one of his brothers was still still struggling.
Dakota Halverson was eight years older than his brother but they had a strong bond, Shana Chappell told CNN, a year after Nikoui's death.
'He started expressing that Kareem’s really gone, that he just wanted to be with him. And how much he misses him and loves him,' she said, describing how he would sometime sleep beside his brother's grave
'He would say it bothers him that Kareem's here alone.'
Some 13 U.S. service members were killed in a suicide attack at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in 2021. A new book reveals the U.S. had two opportunities to disrupt the terror group behind the attack, but were thwarted by the need to work with the Taliban in the final chaotic days of the withdrawal from Afghanistan
The blast was outside The Baron Hotel, at the Abbey Gate of Kabul airport. Westerners were staying in the hotel before their evacuation flights
The Americans killed in the blast were: (left to right, starting with top row) Cpl. Daegan W. Page - Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo - Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover - Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza - Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum - Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui - Cpl. Hunter Lopez - Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz - Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss - Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez - Navy Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak - Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola - Sgt. Nicole L. Gee
He took his own life as the one-year anniversary approached. His body was found at the town's Pikes Peak Park, where he would play with his brother as a child and just across the street from the memorial for the fallen marine.
'Dakota Halverson was a loving son, brother and friend,' his family wrote in a GoFundme appeal. 'Losing his brother nearly one year ago has proven too difficult to bear.'
On Thursday, Nikoui was a guest of Rep. Brian Mast at the State of the Union, part of a Republican move to keep pressure on Biden for a full accounting of what went wrong in Afghanistan.
He listened to 50 minutes of Biden's speech before it all became too much to bear.
Nikoui make his stand just after the president said: 'To state the obvious, all Americans deserve the freedom to be safe.'
Biden did not mention Afghanistan in the address.
