Police bodycam footage shows the distressing moment a 16-year-old girl is burnt to death following a horrifying car crash in Los Angeles last month.

Destiny Villanueva, 16, died in a car after the 14-year-old driver crashed while speeding away from police attempting a traffic stop, after noticing the vehicle's headlights were out just after midnight on February 20.

'It's rainy conditions, we're not going to go in pursuit,' one officer can be heard telling another over the radio in newly-released bodycam footage.

Shortly afterwards, surveillance footage from across the street reveals the moment the Toyota Camry hits a traffic pole at Balboa and Ventura Boulevard at high speed, then ignites.

The hero officers are seen racing to the teenagers' rescue. 'Can you get out?' one asks.

'No,' the driver responds as the doors won't open.

'I can't get out, my leg's hurting,' one of the girls can be heard saying.

The officers are then seen breaking the mangled car's windows and piercing the airbag with a pocket knife.

'You have to get out of the car, get out,' the officers shout as the flames appear to get worse.

'Get the driver out,' one officer is heard telling the other, before asking the passenger, 'Is there anyone else in the car?'

'No,' she responds while laying on the sidewalk

After extracting the driver and the eighteen-year-old passenger from the car, officers drag the girls to safety down the street from the burning wreckage.

Police again attempt to confirm with the teenagers that they were the only two people in the vehicle.

The girl who'd initially claimed it was just the two who'd been rescued then changes her story, saying: 'No, three.'

The police bodycam footage shows the officers running back to the vehicle and attempting to save the third passenger in the back seat, since ID'd as Villanueva.

However, the vehicle had become entirely engulfed by flames and only-child Villanueva was declared dead at the scene.

Responding firefighters found her body in the backseat, wedged under the driver's seat.

A family-friend described Villanueva as a 'precious daughter whose light was extinguished far too soon' on a GoFundMe fundraiser set up on behalf of her mother.

The driver and surviving passenger escaped with minor injuries, police said.

Police confirmed the driver 'did not display any sign of impairment' after the collision.

All three people in the car were friends and lived near each other, authorities confirmed.

The incident remains under investigation, and it is not yet clear if the driver will face criminal charges for the crash.

Cops have yet to say whether the car was stolen, or if it belonged to the underage driver's family.
