Ever wonder how the Hollywood glitterati keep looking so youthful on the Oscar's red carpet?

The secret for at least two of tomorrow's hottest hopefuls is a £5,000 'handheld facelift' device, it can be revealed.

Nominees Cillian Murphy and Carey Mulligan are both understood to rely on the Lyma Laser Pro before awards ceremony to iron out any wrinkles.

Experts claim the handheld gadget is the 'closest you'll get to cosmetic surgery' without having to go under the knife.

Using a powerful cold laser, the device targets the deepest layer of the skin and rebuilds it - without causing any pain or damage in the process.

With regular use, the British company behind it claim it can increase skin elasticity by 103 per cent.

Since launching last September, it has become the must-have gadget for Hollywood royalty, including Barry Keoghan, Keira Knightley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ana De Armas and Kate Hudson.

Founder Lucy Goff said: 'So many celebrities have bought a Lyma Laser… they use it before they go on the red carpet.

'Botox is fine for lots of people, but actors need to be able to move their face and show expression – they need to look natural.'

She revealed British star Carey Mulligan, 38, had been using the Lyma device 'all the way to LA' for the Academy Awards, where she is nominated for Best Actress for her role in Maestro.

While Cillian Murphy, 47, who is leading the charge for Best Actor for his role in Oppenheimer, also has his own personal Lyma Laser device.

He visited the company's London HQ for a 90-minute treatment ahead of his win at the Baftas last month.

Until now, the technology has predominantly been used in a medical setting, with hospitals first using it to help rebuild cartilage and heal tendons in the 1960s.

Lyma is the first brand however to bring it to the beauty industry after finding it could also have a transformative effect on the skin.

Described as 'the most powerful cosmetic device in existence', it is claimed to tackle everything from sagging skin to cellulite and bingo wings.

Ms Goff said the device was 'fundamentally different' to LED masks, which can only penetrate the epidermis, the top layer of the skin.

In contrast, laser light is able to penetrate up to 10cm, crucially allowing it to target the dermis, the base layer of the skin, and go as deep as the fat and bone tissue below.

Lyma – which also offers a £500 face cream – this week released a new 'Pro' version that is three times more powerful than its predecessor, which cost £2000.

Leading plastic surgeon Dr Graeme Glass said: 'It's fair to say that all surgery comes with some degree of pain and downtime and this doesn't suit everyone.

'The Lyma Laser PRO is the closest thing you'll get to surgery without any of the pain or downtime and that makes it an attractive option for everyone.'
