Among the top dark-money donors to President Joe Biden's reelection campaign is one of the early investors in AI technology, according to a new report.

In 2022, the second-largest donation to Biden's campaign fame from married couple James McClave and Emily Berger through the Super PAC Future Forward, reports CNN

The couple work for investment firm Jane Street which was an early investor in the company, Anthropic, as was disgraced crypto billionaire and fellow political financier Sam Bankman-Fried.

The network's report cites the donations made by Future Forward as an example of how 'wealthy donors on both sides of the aisle are using dark-money groups to shape American politics.'

Publicly, Biden and other Democrats have decried the use of dark money being used to fuel campaigns.

McLave and Berger are the only two executives listed for a New York-based charity named BEMC 4 Association. ProPublica reports that the charity had revenues of $4.1 million in 2022 and expenses of $15.1 million.

The causes for the charity are civil rights, social action and advocacy. The only group that gave more to Biden was the Open Society Policy Center, run by conservative boogeyman George Soros which contributed $15.2 million.

By comparison other liberal groups such as the League of Conservation Voters and Fund for a Better Future gave just $2.5 million and $1.5 million respectively.

It was reported earlier this year that Future Forward is plotting a $250 million ad blitz for Biden in 2024.

Investigations manager at OpenSecrets, Anna Massoglia, told CNN that the presence of groups such as Future Forward leaves 'voters in the dark when they go to the polls.'

'They don’t have any information about who’s giving until after the election, if at all… that’s very important so they can know who’s fueling the candidates they’re voting for, and what special interests are playing a role,' Massoglia said.

McClave and Berger, who holds a doctorate from the University of California-Berkeley, both maintain a low profile.

In 2023, PBS Wisconsin reported that McClave was a major contributor to liberal Janet Protasiewicz's campaign for an open seat on Wisconsin's Supreme Court.

CNN reports that McClave have been involved in a crypto trading through the firm where he and his wife both work, Jane Street.

McClave was one of the earliest investors in AI chatbot Claude, developed by Anthropic in 2021, a company he was partnered in investment with disgraced financier and crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried.

The CNN report mentions that McClave has been keeping tabs on the federal government's crypto policies.

On Sunday, Biden's campaign said t raised $10 million in the 24 hours following a fiery State of the Union address, where he accused Donald Trump of threatening democracy and torpedoing a bill to tackle U.S. immigration woes.

In a 68-minute address to Congress on Thursday, his Republican challenger in the , with burying the truth about the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol and bowing to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The fundraising haul is notable given the Biden campaign and his Democratic Party allies raised over $42 million in the entire month of January.

An estimated 32.2 million people watched Biden's State of the Union speech, according to Nielsen ratings from 14 television networks, an increase of 18% from last year. This did not include viewers on streaming, social media and other platforms.

Leaning into its cash edge, the Biden campaign on Saturday announced a $30 million ad blitz, which will target key battleground states over the next six weeks.

Biden and Trump remain neck-and-neck in the contest for the White House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll in February showed, with the former president backed by 37% of respondents and Biden supported by 34 percent.
