Christina Applegate has admitted she's currently 'isolating' amid her heartbreaking battle with multiple sclerosis because she's still grieving her former life after being diagnosed in 2021.

During an exclusive interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, the 52-year-old actress said she's 'not putting a time stamp' on the process of accepting her life will never be the same again - but hopes she will get to a place where she will 'function a little bit better'.

Speaking candidly about her MS experience alongside fellow actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who was diagnosed with the debilitating disease 22 years ago, Christina became teary-eyed as she laid bare the devastating reality of living with the life-changing illness, which impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Holding hands with Jamie-Lynn, 42, the Married... with Children actress explained: 'I'm never gonna wake up and go, "This is awesome", I'm just gonna tell you that. It's just not gonna happen. I wake up and I'm reminded of it every day. It's not gonna happen but I might get to a place where I will function a little bit better.'

Opening up about her current coping mechanism, Christina explained: 'Right now I'm isolating and that's kind of how I'm dealing with it, is by not going anywhere because I don't want to do it, it's hard.'

When Robin asked if she was 'still in a grieving process', Christina replied: 'Mm-hmm, I'm not putting a time stamp on it,' while Jamie-Lynn admitted: 'I don't think it ends.'

Elsewhere in the interview, mother-of-one Christina admitted that she's living 'kind of in hell' due to MS and also touched on her surprise appearance at the 75th Emmy Awards in January.

The Dead to Me actress said she got 'so freaked out' at the star-studded ceremony when she took to the stage to present the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

'I actually kind of blacked out,' she told 63-year-old Robin. 'People said, "oh you were so funny", and I'm like, "I don't even know what I said". I don't know what I was doing, I got so freaked out that I didn't even know what was happening anymore.'

When asked if she felt the love after making her appearance at the annual event, she replied: 'I mean, yes, yes. I live kind of in hell... I'm not out a lot so this is like a little difficult just for my system, but yeah of course the support is wonderful and I'm really grateful.'

Christina received a standing ovation on the night and decided to make light of the beautiful moment as she told the famous crowd: 'You're totally shaming with disability by standing up, it's fine!'

Touching on that moment again with Robin, she said: 'I felt really beloved and it was a beautiful thing,' before making another joke adding: 'I'm just going to say this, that audience stood up for everybody!'

Last year, Christina said she may never act in front of a camera again due to her battle with multiple sclerosis.

The actress said she had been thinking about what her future might look like and told Vanity Fair: 'I can't even imagine going to set right now.

'This is a progressive disease. I don't know if I'm going to get worse. With the disease of MS, it's never a good day. You just have little sh**ty days,' she explained.

'There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted. Going down the stairs, carrying things - you can't do that anymore. It f**king sucks,' she continued.

'I can still drive my car short distances. I can bring up food to my kid. Up, never down.'
