Stephen A. Smith is not especially moved by Kirk Cousins' free agency move to the Falcons - with the ESPN personality mentioning the Cowboys' Dak Prescott to illustrate the new Atlanta quarterback's postseason struggles.

Following six years with the Vikings, Cousins agreed to a reported four-year, $180million deal with the Falcons.

And while the 35-year-old should certainly elevate the team's poor quarterback play last season, Smith thinks the signing is being overhyped a bit.

'Can we dial it back just a touch? Everybody, 'Oh my God, what a great, great day this is for the Atlanta Falcons, and oh my lord, they've been upgraded," Smith began on First Take the day after Cousins' agreed move.

'Um, let me give you a few names that Kirk Cousins has been teammates with: Dalvin Cook.... Justin Jefferson... Adam Thielen ... Stefon Diggs... Those were Kirk Cousins' teammates over the last six years at some point in time or another. The brother got one playoff victory.'

With his new contract - which includes $100million in guarantees, according to  - Cousins will be tied for the seventh-highest annual average salary with three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. He earned $30million last season.

Cousins has just one career playoff win (and a 1-3 postseason record), and Smith brought up that fact as he mentioned another quarterback who has failed to thrive in the winter.

'Can we calm down? That's all I'm saying,' Smith continued of Cousins. 'I know he can play, I know it's an upgrade. I know if you [Kyle] Pitts, if you Bijan Robinson and the crew, I know if you [Drake] London and those boys, you should be happy... he's not a scrub. But this guy got less playoff victories than Dak Prescott.'

Prescott, the longtime Cowboys' quarterback, is 2-5 in the postseason over eight years as a starter.

He earned MVP buzz for his play this past regular season but Dallas was beaten in the first round at home by the Packers, with Prescott throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Prescott's average annual salary of $40million places him tied for 10th among quarterbacks, and level with the Giants' Daniel Jones and Rams' Matthew Stafford.

Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah confirmed Cousins' departure on Monday afternoon.

The quarterback compiled a 50-37-1 record in Minnesota and threw 171 touchdowns to just 55 interceptions, but missed the second half of last season after tearing his Achilles.

'After significant and positive dialogue with Kirk and his representatives, we were unable to reach agreement on a contract that fits the short and long-term visions for both Kirk and the Minnesota Vikings,' Adofo-Mensah said in a statement.

'Kirk holds a special place in Vikings history, and we appreciated his leadership and contributions to the team and the Minneapolis-St Paul community over the pas't six seasons. We wish him, his wife, Julie, and their children all the best.'
