The King and Queen of Denmark appeared to be in high spirits as they hosted for representatives from the Armed Forces, the Air Force and the Emergency Management Board last night.

Frederik X, 55 - who recently ascended the throne - and his wife Mary, 52, grinned for the camera in snaps shared to Instagram from the event at Amalienborg on Monday evening.

The pair were also joined by Margrethe II, who abdicated the crown after more than 50 years in January.

Looking formal and sophisticated, mother-of-four Mary wore a chic black dress and blazer which cinched at the waist with a golden button.

The Queen kept her make-up glam with dark smokey eyes and styled her chestnut tresses in an updo with face-framing strands.

She also brandished her selection of medals and a blue sash. Her husband too opted for formal wear as he posed next to her in pictures.

Elsewhere Margrethe, 83, donned a deep blue gown for the occasion.

The caption read: 'On his birthday, 11 March 1953, Frederik IX instituted the badge of honor of the Armed Forces and the Air Force as a parallel to the badge of honor of the Navy, which as the first badge of honor was already instituted in 1801 by Christian 7.

'The badge of honor dinner is therefore held on the day of the establishment on 11 March.'

The pair were pictured shaking hands with attendees, alongside a seated Margrethe.

The couple were all smiles as they put on a united front - while last week Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova spoke out for the first time since going into hiding following accusations of an affair with Frederick X.

The 47-year-old took to Instagram to thank people who have 'cared about her in the last year and shown her 'love and support'.

The TV star was forced to deny 'malicious rumours' she had an affair with the now King of Denmark after the pair were pictured on a night out together in Madrid in November.

Breaking her silence with a selfie alongside her adorable pet dog, she wrote: 'Hello everyone! Here I am back! I want to thank all the people who have cared about me this past year, those who have understood my absence and my silence, and those who have sent me messages of love and support'.

'You have no idea how much that meant to me.. Thank you very much!

'It's been a few months where I needed peace and quiet, but I'm already doing my best to slowly be able to return to my normal life and meet my work commitments.

'Once again, a million thanks! Taj and I are leaving you our best smile with some pictures from our walk this afternoon and wishing you all a very good night'.

It comes as Genoveva has been tapped up to appear on a Spanish reality TV show, El Desafío 5.

Her friends have also spoken to Spanish media, saying she has been 'travelling constantly on medical recommendation' to 'avoid the stresses of media pressures'.

'She is crushed by everything that has happened and she cannot bear to relive it all. Physically she is very well, although thinner,' one friend told Hola!

Meanwhile, last month, the royal couple announced their first royal tours together since becoming King and Queen.

The pair will visit Sweden, Norway, Greenland and the Faroe Islands this summer.

Announcing their upcoming plans, the Palace's Instagram account confirmed that the King and Queen will travel on board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

In early May, the couple - who have been married for almost 20 years and share four children - will visit Sweden first.

The following week, Frederik and Mary will then undertake an official state visit to Norway.

The Palace also outlined plans for the King and Queen of Denmark to visit the Faroe Islands and Greenland in June and July.

However, the Firm highlighted that the dates for these two trips had not been confirmed.

The Palace said in a statement: 'The first state visits will provide the occasion for the new King and Queen to meet with the sovereigns in Sweden and Norway, and they will thus mark the close relations between the Nordic monarchies.'

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog has served as the Danish Royal Family's cruise ship since May 1932 and has travelled over 800,000 miles.

The luxury yacht hosts the Royal Family on both their private holidays and during official overseas engagements.

The yacht's royal compartment still contains furniture and fittings dating back to 1879 that was on board the family's previous yacht.

Frederik and Mary are keen sailors - and took part in a yacht race in Sydney in December 2017 when they visited the Queen's hometown for Christmas.

In August 2022, the couple competed against one another in a sailing 'Royal Race' at the Rockwool Denmark Sail Grand Prix - with Mary narrowly beating her husband.
