Horrifying surveillance footage captured the moment a car thief killed an innocent passenger after he sped away with her in his backseat before crashing in a fiery wreck.

Darion Thomas, 26, has been charged with murdering mother-of-two Karen Mariela Cardona, 32, when he stole her car from a Texas gas station.

Ring doorbell footage from NBC5 showed the car racing at a high speed through Pleasant Grove, Dallas, before taking a turn and spiraling out of control and exploding into a fireball.

Both Thomas and Cardona were ejected from the car, with the mom tragically pronounced dead at the scene while the 26-year-old man suffered broken legs.

Thomas later told cops he was driving at 260mph in the Honda Accord, a ludicrous claim given the speed tops out at 120mph on that model.

Thomas has been booked on a $1 million bond over the crash, which unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning shortly before 1am.

Dallas police said Cardona and two other people had pulled up to a gas station, and Thomas reportedly told officers that he observed two of them enter the business.

Cardona remained in the vehicle laying down on the backseats of her friend's 2018 Honda Accord, and Thomas admitted that he went outside to see if the two others had left their car running.

He said that when he found that they did, he jumped inside and stole the car, not knowing that Cardona was still inside, according to an arrest affidavit reported by NBC5.

Police said that Thomas was startled by Cordona when he sped away, but rather than stop, he hit the gas and drove recklessly as the mom yelled at him.

Around a mile from the gas station, the car was seen on the Ring doorbell footage racing at a high speed through the streets.

He later reportedly told cops that he reached '260mph' during the episode, however the top speed of a 2018 Honda Accord is around 120mph.

As they rounded a corner, the vehicle lost control and plowed into a power pole, ejecting both Thomas and Cordona from the vehicle.

Thomas told a witness who discovered the wreckage that he had stolen the car because he needed a ride to work. The driver then asked the witness for a gun so he could kill himself.

He was taken to Baylor Hospital to be treated for his injuries, including broken legs.

Paramedics said they tried desperately to save Cordona's life, but she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Witness Mireya Diaz said that she and her cousins ran to the crash to help after hearing the collision, but Cordona had already passed away by that time.

'She was bleeding out of her head, and the guy had a broken leg or something,' she said.

Another witness said they were startled by the sound of the vehicle, saying: 'He was speeding so fast we could literally hear it... so when the car crashed, it was just the loudest sound ever.'

'I said whoever was in the vehicle, are they okay? [My daughter] said no mom, there is a woman dead in the street,' they added.

'I give my condolences to the family because it’s very emotional to just have your vehicle stolen, now your family member is deceased.'
