Two children were hospitalized after they overdosed on fentanyl pills at a daycare center in North Carolina.
The unidentified kids were given candy, which later turned out to be laced with the powerful opioid, from an employee at Lou Anna's Childcare Center in Kenansville on March 6, according to the Duplin County Sheriff's Office.
They overdosed and quickly became unresponsive and were rushed to ECU Health Duplin Hospital. Both children, whose ages were not shared, were treated and released from hospital.
It is not clear what led to them being given fentanyl pills - but Duplin County Deputies said Lou Anna’s Child Care Center is cooperating with their investigation and no arrests have yet been made.
But the childcare facility issued a warning to parents that no outside snacks will be allowed following the incident.

Deputies say the two children were given what they thought was candy from an employee at Lou Anna’s Child Care Center.
But it turned out to be fentanyl pills and authorities have launched an investigation as to exactly where they came from.
Parents soon realized the pills were not candy and handed over what was left to sheriff's deputies.
Lou Anna’s Child Care Center, which is owned by Ann Washington, is cooperating with the investigation.
The childcare facility shared a letter to parents and staff acknowledging the incident and banning snacks from outside.
