A horrified pet owner has claimed she was forced to call the cops after discovering construction workers had plastered her cat inside the walls.

Jayda Dixon-Williams, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, had complained about a leak in her kitchen to her building management but was unaware that any contractors would be gutting her kitchen to repair it last weekend.

The 25-year-old, who owns a baby clothing store, came home from work on Saturday night and began to panic when she couldn't find one of her beloved seven-month old kittens, called Raymonte, despite hearing him meowing.

She was devastated to hear her cat scratching from behind the new drywall and, after fearing that he may even be stuck in a pipe or the drain, was left with no choice but to take drastic measures.

Jayda, who said her two kittens are 'like her children,' said that she was left devastated by the builder's 'careless' blunder.

The entrepreneur insisted that, if she had known building maintenance were planning to attend, she would have put her kittens in their cage for their safety.

Having arrived home to the scene, she tried to contact her building management and maintenance teams but claims their phone lines were down.

Instead, Jayda resorted to calling the cops who directed her to use a knife to chip away at the wall.

'I was so scared, I really felt like my child was trapped behind the wall. I was nervous because I wasn't sure if he was in a pipe or drain,' the doting pet owner dished.

'I called the emergency maintenance and building management but their phone line was down.

'So I called the police and they told me to try and bust through the wall, which I did.

'I was trying to be cautious when I was doing it because there are a bunch of pipes. I didn't want to kick through the wall and burst a pipe as my cat could end up drowning.

'They told me to get a knife as I have no hammer, I don't own one. The police told me to just try to chip away at the wall so I did.

'When I made the first little hole in the wall and he stuck his paw out I was like 'oh my god, you're actually back here.' I was trying to calm down but it was crazy.'

Jayda was able to record the moment Raymonte's tiny paw poked through the hole she had managed to make.

She continued: 'I was relieved a little bit to know he wasn't deeper in the wall. I was happy to see he stuck his paw out.

'He means everything to me. I have two cats and they are everything. I see them as my kids.

'His brother was probably panicking knowing he was stuck behind the wall, hearing him scratching and meowing. He was probably so upset.'

She concluded: 'It's just careless. Your pets shouldn't have to be locked up in a cage every time you leave the house because you're not sure if maintenance is going to come in or not'

Jayda claimed she had been having issues with leaking and mold, which is why she was having her kitchen gutted.

'There was a lot of flooding water and it caused a lot of mold to grow so that's why they gutted out my kitchen on Saturday.

'They gutted out my whole back kitchen wall and replaced the wall with new drywall.

'I have a cage for my cats so that when maintenance comes in, I can put them in the cage and they won't run out the door or anything like that.

'But I wasn't informed they were coming to my apartment on Saturday so that explains why my cat was loose.

'I was out during the day and when I walked into my apartment Saturday night I heard him meowing.

'Usually my cats run to the door so I was looking in my bedroom and all the rooms. I couldn't find him whatsoever.

'Then I heard him scratching and I just knew he was in the wall. He must have ran back there and they closed him somewhere behind that wall.'
