House Republicans on Thursday launched a wide-reaching probe into China's attempts to infiltrate the U.S. as Congress cracks down on the hostile nation.
The Oversight Committee will take a fine-tooth comb to nine agencies of government to ensure they are effectively combatting Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence.
The investigation is necessary, say Republicans, after multiple cyber attacks on critical U.S. infrastructure, a massive Chinese buy-up of U.S. farmland often close to military bases and as Chinese-originated fentanyl continues to secretly pour into the U.S.
It also comes as Congress inches closer than ever to banning TikTok over its ties to China over concerns that the popular app is being manipulated by the CCP to spy on Americans.
A Oversight Committee aide told DailyMail.com that cracking down on TikTok is just the 'tip of the iceberg' of what Republicans have planned to hold China to account.
'Without firing a single bullet, the Chinese Communist Party is waging war against the U.S. by targeting, influencing, and infiltrating every economic sector and community in America,' said Chairman James Comer in a statement.

'This coordinated influence and infiltration campaign by the CCP threatens U.S. military readiness, the technology sector, financial markets, agriculture industry, education systems, and intellectual property,' Comer continued.
Letters went out to: Department of Justice (DOJ), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the National Science Foundation alerting them of the new investigation.
The letter to the USDA called China's efforts the 'most expansive heist in farming history' and said the CCP is 'currently attempting to steal or hack every conceivable facet of U.S. agriculture technology.'
Biden administration agencies need to be 'enhancing defense protocols, increasing coordination...and discouraging dangerous business, cultural and online engagement with nefarious CCP-backed entities,' a committee aide told DailyMail.com.
The government-wide investigation is designed to ensure that the federal government is taking every action necessary to protect Americans.
One key goal, according to the committee, is working to expose gaps in the response of federal agencies to a 'holistic CCP strategy to weaken America.'
Over the next several months, Republicans plan to follow up on the nine letters and get concrete answers on what steps are being taken to fight the CCP.
In addition, there will be a series of upcoming hearings. The committee has not yet set the agenda or provided information on which agencies and experts will be testifying first.
'The CCP has sought to destroy the U.S. on the global stage through coordinated influence and infiltration campaigns and Congress can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines,' the aide told DailyMail.com.
The committee plans to put out a report on its investigation reflecting its findings and recommendations.
Yesterday, the House took the first big step in potentially banning TikTok in the United States over the app's parent company's ties to China.
The House on Wednesday resoundingly passed a bill that would force CCP-affiliated ByteDance to divest TikTok or else the popular video-sharing app would be banned in the U.S.
It comes as Congress comes closer than ever to banning TikTok over its ties to China
A broad bipartisan majority - 352 - voted for the bill, which China opposed. The legislation passed despite TikTok deploying its users, even children, to call representatives and demand they vote against it.
The app used geolocation data to determine what representatives each user should call and sent out push notifications.
The House China Select Committee says Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials through ByteDance are using TikTok to spy on its U.S. users' locations and dictate its algorithm to conduct influence campaigns, making it a national security threat.
ByteDance would have 165 days after the law is signed to divest from TikTok. If it does not, app stores and web hosting platforms would not be allowed to distribute it in the U.S.
The bill has a good shot of becoming law as a bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed the bill and Joe Biden confirmed that he would sign it if it also passes the Senate.
Still, as the bill has gained more steam, so too has its opposition. Trump threw cold water on it last week, insisting if TikTok is banned its rival Facebook would 'double their business.'
'I don't want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better,' Trump wrote in a social media post. 'They are a true Enemy of the People!'
Elon Musk joined Trump in opposing the effort to reign in TikTok's influence, calling it government 'censorship,' in a post on X Tuesday.
'This law is not just about TikTok, it is about censorship and government control! If it were just about TikTok, it would only cite 'foreign control' as the issue, but it does not,' Musk stated.
