Incredible moment doomed plane floats back down to earth after pilot deployed a PARACHUTE that held up the entire aircraft - just days before Nevada family saved using the device

Dramatic footage shows the moment a whole-plane parachute is deployed to save the lives of two men on board - just days before a family survived a similar crash.

Artem Konokuk, 38, his wife and two-year-old daughter escaped with just cuts and bruises when a chute gave them a soft landing in a forest outside Whitehorn on March 8.

Rescuers watched in amazement as their single-engine plane drifted across a valley dangling helplessly below the emergency parachute before coming to rest in a tree.

But there was an even luckier escape for residents of Bellevue in Washington when a parachute dropped a plane next to a nature trail within yards of their homes on March 5.

'Oh my God, woah, is anybody else seeing this?' said one woman as she saw it come down, 'Holy s***!'

The two-man Cirrus SR22 had set out from nearby Renton Airport for a training flight with a pilot and an instructor on board.

Dramatic audio from Air Traffic Control recorded the moment the pilot lost engine power and attempted to maneuver away from the houses below.

'This is Seven Charlie Sierra engine failure,' the pilot radioed.

The controller offered him an immediate return to the airport but was told 'we're not going to make that'.

Seconds later the pilot announced he had deployed the aircraft's Airframe Parachute System just a few hundred feet into the air.

Resident Kiera Perez was making a snack in the kitchen as the drama unfolded above her head.

'I was actually just making mac and cheese and we heard like a loud bang, so we thought it was like gunshots or something so we got scared,' she said.

She saw the plane drifting to earth and ran to the scene next to the Olympic Pipeline Trail, arriving in time to see the two men on board emerge unscathed.

'They were talkative,' she told KKTV, 'They were up walking, everything.'

The family in California were not so lucky as the plane came to rest precariously in the tree canopy, around 100 feet above the forest floor.

They somehow managed to scramble clear and climb down the tree without bringing the precipitously balanced aircraft down with them.

Rescuers who scrambled through the forest arrived to find the family nursing their injuries on the ground, and the 2,200 pound aircraft now crumpled and upside-down on the ground beside them.

Its tail was entirely detached, and the life-saving parachute was still in the tree canopy above.

The aircraft manufacturer has installed parachutes for its four-seat SR22s since 1998 and it was successfully deployed in 107 emergencies worldwide between then and 2021.

But once it is deployed it leaves pilots completely unable to control where the aircraft will come down.

The training flight had been flying north over a lake, but veered sharply right after the parachute was deployed, drifting over a densely populated neighborhood.

'There's always people walking, it's just like a very populated area,' said Perez.

'This happened right behind my parents home, like 75 yards away!' wrote Amy Arnesen McOmber on Facebook.

'The plane crashed by itself into the green belt behind their house we used to call the pipeline trail.'

Dozens of residents reported the crash to local police who raced to the scene in the 6500 block of 127th Place Southeast.

Dailymail.com has reached out to the plane's owner Lure Jet LLC for comment.

The Federal Aviation Administration as well as the National Transportation Safety Board have been informed about the crashes and the Safety Board will investigate both.
