A 56-year-old Oregon man who believed his mother was a vampire has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her to death.

Robert Bruce Poe called Lincoln County Sheriff's Office deputies on March 12 and informed them that he had 'accidentally' killed Judy D Poe, his 79-year-old mother.

Cops soon arrived at his house on East Logsden Road in the city of Siletz and saw the accused's hands and clothes covered in blood as he held his mother's purse and a letter.

But there was no sign of the body.

Judy was later found about 250 yards away from the house, near a 2004 Gold Chrysler PT Cruiser that appeared to be stuck in gravel.

When deputies approached her body, they saw a 'large round stake which appeared to be the broken end of a garden tool protruding from her throat', according to court records.

She was officially confirmed dead at 9.55pm by Lincoln County officials.

The sheriff's office reportedly said Judy had 'sustained injuries from blunt force trauma to the head'.

Robert was taken into custody and has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon

When questioned by deputies, Robert said he believed his now-dead mother was a vampire as she would poke him at night and cause him to wake up with blood on his sheets, police say.

The accused is being held without bail and set to appear in court on March 20.

Robert has previously been accused and arrested for numerous crimes since 1986 including possession of methamphetamine, theft, DUI, harassment and for driving uninsured.
