A bus driver in Long Island has been charged over claims he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl multiple times over the course of 17 months.
Miguel Enrique Diaz, 47, was arrested at his home in Bay Shore on Wednesday night and faces one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He worked as a bus driver for Suffolk Transportation Services and served Bay Shore Middle School and Brook Elementary School, according to Suffolk County Police.
Diaz allegedly sexually abused the unidentified young girl, now 13, multiple times between May 2022 and October 2023.

Long Island bus driver Miguel Enrique Diaz, 47, has been charged over claims he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl multiple times over the course of 17 months.
Diaz allegedly sexually abused the young girl when she was 12 over the course of 17 months before a community therapist found out what was going on.
He was reported to detectives in the Special Victims Section earlier this month before he was arrested on Wednesday.
A letter was sent to parents and those in the wider community about the alleged abuse.
The superintendent of Bay Shore School District claimed the alleged abuse did not happen on school property, district buildings or any buses which were transporting students.
'The District has taken immediate action to ensure that the employee of Suffolk Transportation will no longer participate in providing any driving duties for the District,' Superintendent Steven Maloney said.
'The Bay Shore School District stands committed to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of our students and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement regarding this matter.'
Diaz has been suspended from Suffolk Transportation Services without pay following his arrest.
'We have been assured by the police department that these crimes had nothing to do with his employment as a school bus driver or at school district,' executive vice president Tom McAteer said.
Diaz began working for the company in November 2022 and started his route in in September of 2023.
Detectives are unsure if there are any other alleged victims who have yet to come forward.
They are calling on parents who believe their children may have been sexually abused to get in touch with the Special Victims Section.
