Netflix might have created its most peculiar comedy series to date, Chicken Nugget.

Questioning what to do if your partner turned into a chicken nugget sounds more like an internet meme than a Netflix series boasting an esteemed director.

But that's the plot of the 10-part series created by famed South Korean film director Lee Byeong-heon.

Released today, the show starts with a woman stepping into a strange machine that transforms her into a chicken nugget. Viewers then follow her father and admirer as they embark upon a quest to bring her back.

Despite sounding like a one-of-a-kind original plot, the K-drama took inspiration from a online comic series of the same name - Chicken Nugget - by Park Ji-dok.

With a string of celebrity cameos, including model and actress Jung Ho-yeon, who also appeared in Squid Game, the show has caused a storm online, with fans eager to start the series today despite feelings of confusion around the plot.

When Choi Min-ah (played by Kim Yoo-jung) visits her father (played by Ryu Seung-ryong) at his workplace, she stumbles across a bizarre machine, and curious for answers, she steps in.

But then the unexpected happens - it transforms her into a golden, crispy, chicken nugget.

Aware of Choi Min-ah's transformation, her admirer Baek-joong (played by Ahn Jae-hong) and father, Ko Baek-joong, scramble to bring back, thrusting them into a zany adventure.

The pair know it's up to them to bring her back. They start by tracking down the person who delivered the machine, who leads them to a scientist.

The trail quickly becomes arduous, filled with tireless nights while longing for Choi Min-ah's return to human form.

It gets even more twisted when the pair have to consider complex questions, including what would happen if somebody ate Choi Min-ah - especially because the nugget looks delicious.

Despite sounding absurd and somewhat traumatic, the comedy series maintains a lighthearted approach, recognising its far out premise and providing comic relief for the audience throughout.

And those acquainted with South Korean stars will recognise a fair few faces, including Jung Ho-yeon, best known for her role as Kang-saw in Squid Game and Korean pop singer Jinyoung.

The series announcement quickly caused a storm on social media, with fans baffled and equally excited about its premise. One said: 'So unserious #ChickenNugget.

'I've just seen an advert on Netflix for a tv show about. Woman that becomes a chicken nugget. I'm really confused', said another.

A third wrote: 'This is so absurd that I might actually watch.'

A fourth added: 'Kim Yoo Jung, Jung Hoyeon and Jinyoung special appearances in Chicken Nugget Netflix Series!

Even though they are just cameos, their roles are important and gave a big impact to the story of the series. #ChickenNugget.'

Amused, a sixth questioned: 'Who had the creative mind to write this script?'

It comes after Vince Staples debuted his eponymous TV show on Netflix and viewers are so impressed, they've 'binged' the entire season in just a few days.

For the Norf, Norf rapper, 30, his first ever leading series is perhaps well overdue following his stint as charming playboy Maurice on Emmy-winning comedy Abbott Elementary.

And now the Compton native has written, produced and starred in the satirical series which mimics the rapper's life - including wild but often sadly realistic tales of racism, gun violence, riches and of course romance - even though a disclaimer warns it's 'a work of fiction'.

The Vince Staples Show struck gold on Rotten Tomatoes, achieving a rare 100 per cent score, in addition to a staggering 89 per cent Audience Score.

The programme is also a hit with viewers, who've taken to X, formerly Twitter, to reveal it has them 'dying laughing', and that they need season two 'now'.

Set in 2023, the dramedy - which debuted exclusively on Netflix on February 15 - features five crazed tales, of which perhaps the most memorable and thought-provoking is a botched bank robbery.
