A group of prospective medical students have left the internet in hysterics with their hilarious reactions to being shown a C-section video.

The University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dublin, Ireland, took to Instagram to share the clip from inside the auditorium.

Many of the young adults, who were packed into the tiers, recoiled in horror at the apparently grisly surgery.

The range of reactions left viewers in stitches as they poked fun at the group.

In the clip, which was shared last week, the students had some very visceral reactions to the content being shown in the lecture theater.

Some cowered and covered their eyes as others let their jaws drop before holding their heads in their hands.

The overlaid text in the clip said: 'We showed aspiring med students a video of a live C-section to see if they can handle med school.'

The caption quipped: 'These secondary school students were STRESSED.'

The University's video was soon flooded with hundreds of mixed comments.

Many viewers believed that the young women's reactions was about them 'giving up on being mothers not doctors.'

One person wrote: 'To be fair though, I do wonder if for a lot of the girls' reactions, it was more of a "holy s***, I may have to go through this if I have kids" than a "gross surgery."'

Another commented: 'The reactions from the girls make me think they're more worried about going through that at some point.'

Others were transfixed by the calm reactions of some students - praising them as being the perfect candidates for med school.

One person wrote: 'The girl unphased and drinking her water is our next surgeon ya'll.'

Another person added: 'The ones smiling and open-mouthed without blinking in fascination are going to make it and [become] possible surgeons.'

Elsewhere, other followers shared their person anecdotes from when they watched similar videos during their own medical training.

One person wrote: 'When I saw my first live C-section in Nursing School, I almost passed out, so yeah I get it.'

Another person added: 'I saw a surgery as [a] pre-med student... Biggest mistake of my life... Because I didn't know anything about [the] healthcare field...

'Now I can't handle surgery because of that and I'll have to choose medicine only as my masters.'

Another shared: 'And this is why I went to art school. Not med school. In my high school health class we got shown a video of a guy getting surgery on his brain after a car crash so that we wouldn't drink and drive.

'It made a gross squishing noise when the doctor poked at it with a tool and I just put my head down on my desk and sobbed for the entire rest of the class. Genuinely traumatic.

'I salute everyone who is actually capable of being a doctor/nurse/surgeon/etc. You are all much stronger than me.'

One person dished: 'I remember fainting and falling in emergency operation theatre for three consecutive days during my initial student training duty days.'

Another person added: 'I do biopsies and procedures all the time and I still cringe and gag a little when the needles are happening lol.'

One person offered words of advice for the concerned looking students in the video and wrote: 'You learn to handle it in medical school, so please don't worry if you can handle blood and surgery in high school. You can still be a doctor!'
