A beauty expert has revealed how you are actually supposed to use those paper perfume testers at popular stores like Sephora - leaving the internet stunned with the correct technique.

The tip was shared by makeup experts and content creators Alexis Androulakis and Dr. Christina Basias Androulakis, who are known as The Lipstick Lesbians on social media.

The two often take to TikTok to share their beauty tips, tricks, hacks and product reviews, with a following of over 701,000.

In a new clip, Alexis explained to viewers that you should be spraying the perfume on the skinny part of the paper blotter to get its maximum effects.

'This is technically where you're actually designed to bend it, and you're supposed to use your finger to hold it,' Alexis explained in the video, as she showed viewers.

Alexis bent the paper stick in half, and then held the thicker part of the paper between her index finger and thumb.

In the caption of the TikTok post, she furthered that bending the tester can help to get the scent close to your nose.

'This little Sephora emblem, that's dye,' she explained, referencing the logo that's on the larger part of the tester. 'You don't wanna spray it on the dye.'

'You're supposed to spray it on the tip so you can just smell,' she continued.

Alexis' wife, Dr. Christina, then asked if this technique was the proper way that they spray a perfume at a fragrance house.

'Technically, yes,' Alexis responded.

'I've seen Sephora employees do it on the other side, but any time I worked at a fragrance house, the skinnier tip was always where you place the fragrance on the blotter,' she concluded.

Spray it like you mean it! How to properly use a perfume tester

  • Alexis said to spray the perfume on the skinny side of the tester
  • Then, you can bend it, and hold the skinny side up to your nose
  • The perfume should not go on the thicker side of the paper tester

In the comments section of their TikTok, many users seemed shocked by the helpful hack, joking that they were 'mind blown.'

'I ALWAYS learn something from your content and I LOOOVE it,' one person wrote.

'I've been doing it all wrong,' someone else admitted.

Other commenters affirmed that this was, in fact, the right way to spray perfume on a tester.

'When I worked for Jo Malone they taught us to spray on the bend and hold that up to your nose so it kind hugs your nostrils and you get the most accurate read,' one person claimed.

Another seconded, 'I work at Sephora and my Assistant Store Manager taught me to spray on the thin side! Now I train others to do so.'

'Sephora certified frag expert here! That is correct. The dye can alter the notes,' a commenter typed.

However, Alexis is not the only one with some great perfume tips to share.

'I've seen Sephora employees do it on the other side, but any time I worked at a a fragrance house, the skinnier tip was always where you place the fragrance on the blotter,' Alexis said

In January, beauty guru Ashley Paige shared her top tips to make your signature smell last just a little bit longer.

One of her tips was to make sure to moisturize your skin before you spritz.

'My first tip is to hydrate your skin before applying,' Paige said.

'Before perfumes cling to emollients, it's so important to keep your skin hydrated before applying perfume.'

She also suggested 'layering' your scents, and avoiding rubbing your wrists together after your spray on your perfume.
