Police are scouring the Arizona desert in search of a missing 27-year-old woman whose family found her abandoned car mysteriously stuck on a boulder.

Mother-of-two Amanda Nenigar, from Blythe, California, disappeared on February 28, a day after she called police and told them her car was stuck in a ditch.

A week after she went missing, her family found her car abandoned 140 miles away from where she made the 911 call with no sign of her in it or nearby.

Police launched a cross-state search that has grown more mysterious by the day as her family told Arizona's Family on Monday: 'She could still be out there lost. She hasn’t connected to any phones since she called 911.'

Neningar's Toyota Camry was found wedged on top of a boulder 45 minutes from Blythe and La Paz County Sheriff William Ponce told Arizona's Family: 'My personal fear is that it's going to be a recovery and not a location of a person that's still alive.'

Nenigar was last seen in Blythe, California, where she lived, on February 28 wearing a pink sweatshirt, black leggings and black and white tennis shoes.

She often drives from Blythe to La Paz County in Arizona where her family lives.

Police said that a week after her family reported her missing, they called to say they had found her car in the remote desert south of Cibola, 45 minutes from Blythe.

Ponce told Arizona Family: 'The rear end of the vehicle was on a large boulder.'

He added: 'When you have a vehicle that's abandoned and you don't have kind of inkling where the person has gone or anything, it all seems very odd to us and it's very concerning.'

After the family found the car, the sheriffs found out that Nenigar had called the police the day before she went missing, telling them that her car was stuck in a ditch.

Ponce said: 'We do know that there was a 911 call that went to the El Centro, California highway patrol station around that time frame stating that she was in Anza and in route to the Palm Springs area.'

She never made it to Palm Springs and her car was found 140 miles away from where she told police it was stuck.

A wide search of the desert didn't find anything and cadaver dogs didn't pick up on any scent.

Ponce said he's worried she could be a victim of human trafficking.

He said: 'Is it a bigger concern to me right now? Of course it is. Our proximity to the us border, the ruralness as a state, we're a couple hours from LA, a couple hours from Phoenix, 3-4 hours from Vegas.

'We have no information at all, it's very mysterious to us. That's why we're asking for the public's help to try to find her or give us any information that may lead us to where she's at.'
