Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin were awarded the 2024 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in Washington DC on Tuesday.
The singer, 76, and his longtime collaborator, 73, took to the stage at Library of Congress dinner event.
The prize is named after another songwriting team, George and Ira Gershwin, whose papers are held at the library.
Elton and Bernie have been working together since they met in 1967. Bernie writes lyrics and sends them to Elton who takes them to the piano and creates a song.
Your Song, Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road are some of the songs they have created together.

Speaking about the honour, Elton said: 'I've been writing songs with Bernie for 56 years, and we never thought that that one day this might be bestowed upon us.
'It's an incredible honor for two British guys to be recognized like this. I'm so honored.'
Bernie added: 'To be in a house along with the great American songwriters, to even be in the same avenue is humbling, and I am absolutely thrilled to accept.'
Elton is reportedly in talks to create a musical based on his stellar catalogue of classic hits.
The Rocket Man hitmaker, who played his final shows last summer, is looking into his own stage show which would include hits like Your Song, Candle In The Wind and Tiny Dancer, The Sun has reported.
As the publication spoke to his husband David Furnish at the 32nd annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party on Sunday, he revealed the pair are always thinking about it.
David, 61, said: 'A catalogue musical, we are always looking at it. I haven't found anything yet that really covers… I think if we wanted to do it, we would want to do it in a way that was really innovative and really exciting and different.
'We're open to any great ideas and it's a wonderful catalogue. But at the moment, with the two other musicals, we're quite busy as it is.'
