Colleen Hoover has been slammed over her line of nail polish based on her novel about domestic violence.

The best-selling author's book, titled It Ends With Us, tells the story of Lily Bloom who experiences domestic abuse from partner Ryle - with a film adaptation starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni set to be released this summer.

Hoover, 44, recently announced her collaboration with nail salon brand Olive and June, releasing a collection of colored varnishes and press-on nails 'inspired by Colleenʼs bestselling titles.'

But this includes It Ends With Us - with many suggesting it is inappropriate to sell merchandise given the domestic violence theme in the book.

She later apologized for the insensitive activity book and it ceased production.

Discussing her latest endeavor, one observer fumed: 'This is wildly inappropriate. I'm always the first defending these books but good god this is just ridiculous - this is romanticizing abuse.'

Another reader said: 'This is literally a book about domestic abuse, why would it be a good idea to market it this way?'

'How is anyone okay with domestic abuse-themed nail polish,' said another angry reader.

Elsewhere, one commenter stated: 'Yikes, I've always loved Olive and June, but this does not seem like a good collaboration, unless all the proceeds are going to domestic violence causes.'

Another quipped: 'Did we learn nothing from the coloring books?'

But, on the other hand, some readers were excited to buy the latest beauty product.
