A woman who cut her grocery bill down to just $45 a week for two people has revealed the genius - and simple - methods she uses to save money at food stores.

Kristy Lechuga, from Los Angeles, who is a financial-advice content creator on TikTok, recently shared her strategies for a budget-friendly grocery haul on a weekly trip to her local Aldi.

Before going down her shopping list for the day, Kristy clarified that she already had many 'staple ingredients at home,' including eggs, bread and veggies. 

She was keen to make this 'very clear' to viewers to prevent misleading anyone about how much extra foodstuffs she has in total week to week. 

'With that being said, when I do go grocery shopping, I plan out all my meals prior, so that I know what to shop for when I do go,' she said.

'For this week's haul, I wanted to focus a lot on protein because I plan on eating more protein than carbs for this week. 

'I think protein is healthy for you and it keeps you full,' she reasoned.

To make ground beef wraps, she got lettuce, salad and low-carb tortillas, along with packages of shaved steak and ground beef.

She grabbed a bag of avocadoes as well.

But Kristy was not done there with her shop.

Next up, she picked up some frozen fruit to make smoothies before also grabbing a cantaloupe, 'some potatoes for carbs' and instant white rice. 

'I understand that rice isn't the healthiest, but I'm going to eat it in decent serving sizes so that it's not going to make me gain weight,' she explained.

'Just because it isn't the healthiest doesn't mean I have to give it up completely.'

Dozens of viewers took to the comments to express awe at Kristy's thriftiness. 

'45$?!?!! How I suck at grocery shopping. I'm trying to learn so I can save not going out,' gasped one. 

'Like... how? I did shopping yesterday and spent $180 for one person, for a week,' a second vented.

A third prompted, 'Do you ever splurge on a item or strictly stick to the list[?]'

To this, Kristy admitted: 'I splurge of course, I'm not perfect.'

Kristy has gained a following on TikTok by documenting her life working two jobs, at Aldi and Walmart, while stridently building up her savings and investments - although she clarified that she didn't get an employee discount at Aldi. 

She claimed that at age 23, she had amassed a net worth of $150,000, according to another TikTok post
