A violent brawl broke out in Glasgow's George Square that saw combatants hurling street furniture - in a row over 'abusing' pigeons.

Footage filmed of the scrap shortly before midday on Tuesday showed a pair of young men squaring off with a third, older man with a beard.

Wearing a large jacket and tracksuit bottoms, the older man yelled at the pair that they were 'abusing animals'.

'I didn't put a hand on you, you f****** c***,' the lone man then says - as one half of the younger pair, wearing a black jacket, black trousers and white trainers, reaches for a large promotional banner.

Wielding the fluttering flag, for a nearby Greek restaurant, the thug makes to swing at the older man with it.

'Oh my God,' a woman says off-screen as the man pushes away his attacker as the other half of the duo, wearing a blue jacket and jeans, comes rushing in, fists flying.

As the man wielding the banner moves to attack again, the third man throws a punch that appears to connect with his head, sending his baseball cap flying off and the man himself tumbling to the ground.

As he staggers to his feet and spins around, still clutching the flag, the lone brawler appears to deal a blow to his associate, sending him face-first to the floor.

He then squares up to the flag-wielder again as a woman says off screen: 'What the f***?'

With what appears to be a shove, the bearded man sends his first attacker staggering backwards, the man landing on his backside before trying to get to his feet as the lone fighter tosses the promotional banner aside.

However, the man in the black jacket picks up a red chair from the nearby Counting House Wetherspoons pub and lifts it overhead - before hurling it at his target.

The man in the brown trousers leaps backwards in an attempt to dodge the chair, before yelling: 'You're abusing pigeons, you c***'.

'Did he say pigeons?' a woman asks off-camera - as the duo retreat in the direction of Glasgow's Queen Street railway station and the clip draws to a close.

The video has been seen thousands of times on social media. In the meantime, police have confirmed they have launched an investigation into the scrap.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told The Sun: 'Around 11.55am on Tuesday, 19 March, 2024, we were called to reports of a disturbance outside a premises on George Square in Glasgow.

'There were no reports of any injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.'
