Hilarious old footage of Jason Kelce awkwardly interviewing a former teammate on the Cincinnati Bearcats has gone viral online, as the recently retired NFL pro gets set to return with his brother, Travis, for New Heights Live, next month.
Shared by the Bearcats' official X (Twitter) account on Thursday, the video shows the former Eagles center interviewing one of his 'best friends on the team', former left tackle, Jeff Linkenbach, for gobearcats.com.
'So, Jeff,' Jason said at first before catching his breath, as he appeared to be nervous on camera. 'What are your expectations for this year?'
'Another Big East Championship this year,' Jeff replied, as Jason immediately said afterward: 'That's what I'm talking about! We're on the same page here.'
Jason then pauses the interview unexpectedly due to him being distracted by some chatter going on in the background of the interview set.
Jason Kelce's cringe interview with former Bearcats left tackle Jeff Linkenbach has gone viral
The 36-year-old former Eagles center (L) looks much different now than he did back in college
'You really going to interrupt the interview like that?' he asks a teammate lurking around the scenes on the Bearcats' James Gamble Nippert Memorial Stadium, while Linkenbach chuckles on his own.
Preoccupied with what's going on around him and not by the interview, Jason then gives a shoutout to several of the Bearcats' defensive players, who were the ones successfully throwing him of in the first place.
'So, uhm, back to the interview with me and Jeff,' Jason then says after realizing that Linkenbach had only been asked one question, so far, during their time together on camera.
'So, uh, like you're a senior this year, what's it been like playing for the University of Cincinnati?' he asked Linkenbach, who responds: 'It's been great, Jason. Came in, who knows, you know? First year, 4-7 or whatever, and now, 1 Big East Championship and gotta win another one this year.'
'Awesome, Awesome,' Jason replies, while trying to find a follow-up question to ask. 'Uhm, went to the Orange Bowl last year. What did you feel for that?'
'I was a little disappointed at the end result, but it was a great feeling, being down in Miami, you know, just to get there. But, disappointed in the end result,' Linkenbach responds.
Jason (R) starred for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats from 2006-2010 before going pro
Seemingly surer of himself at this point in their conversation than at the start of the interview, Jason asks his teammate: 'How's the offensive line going to be this year?'
'We're looking really strong, especially on the left side,' Linkenbach said at first, prior to giving credit where credit's due. 'We have Jason Kelce and Chris Jerrick at center back. You know, Sam Griffin is pretty good. So is Alex Hoffman. So I mean... plus we have a lot of depth in CJ Cobb and Randy Martinez. We're just looking good all around.
Siding with his teammate's take, Jason confirms to Linkenbach: 'Yeah we're stacked.'
He then asks the left tackle: 'If you could run any play what would it be?'
'It would have to be one of the inside zone plays, so I can block with my good buddy, Jason Kelce,' Linkenbach responds, before Jason chimes in: 'We do like blocking.'
The interviewer (Jason) then asks the interviewee in a bid to kill some time: 'What's your favorite food?'
'Pizza, no question,' Linkenbach says before Jason points out to his teammate that his answer is 'a good one,' twice.
Jason (L) and his younger brother, Travis (R), are both coming back to the university on April 11
Distracted once again by other teammates bombing his interview with Linkenbach, Jason proceeds to give a shoutout to former Bearcats wide receiver Marcus Barnett, who then comes on set and says: 'How's it going?'
'He just wanted to say hi' Jason tells the camera before getting back to the interview. 'Alright, well camp has started, camp has started already... how are you feeling right now?'
'Feeling good,' Linkenbach responds, adding that he's getting acclimatized to 'the situation and stuff.'
'Alrighty, Jeff, thank you for taking the time to talk to me and go Bears. [...] Go Bearcats.' Jason says as a way to wrap up the cringe interview.
The Bearcats mocked their former star center, who played for them from 2006-10, on X, Thursday, writing as a caption to shared footage of the interview: 'He already has some practice on the mic at Nippert!
'Travis and Jason return to UC on April 11 for @newheightshow LIVE - complete with the Lombardy Games and surprise guests.'
