A Tennessee caretaker has been arrested for allegedly throwing boiling water on a deaf man, giving him second and third-degree burns, after she grew impatient with him.

Tina Vaughn, 42, was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated assault of a vulnerable adult and simple assault.

Police were called to the Regional One Burn Center in Memphis by staff who were treating the victim, 22-year-old Dontay Battle, for burns to the right side of his face, shoulder and right side of his back, according to an affidavit viewed by DailyMail.com.

Battle, using a sign language interpreter, said his caretaker threw boiling water on him on January 21.

The incident allegedly took place about 10:30p.m. at the victim's group home in the 600 block of Gookin Place when he boiled a pot of water to cook noodles.

'Dontay Battle stated that Tina Vaughn was upset with him and told him to go to the living room,' the affidavit said.

'While Dontay Battle was on the couch, Tina Vaughn got upset and threw the boiling water on Dontay Battle, causing burns to his face, neck, and back.'

The affidavit stated that Battle has 'intellectual and developmental disabilities,' which include schizophrenia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Vaughn is responsible for his well being.

Police said Vaughn did not immediately call for medical help after the incident, but did call her supervisor.

The victim said after the boiling water was thrown on him, he yelled and ran out of the apartment.

The next morning when Vaughn came to work she called an ambulance which took the victim to the burn center.

In a separate police report relating to the incident, the victim previously claimed he tripped on a rug while carrying the boiling water and burned himself by accident, reported Law and Crime.

Vaughn also claimed the victim burned himself by accident and sought medical treatment 'when the extent of his injuries became evident.'

The report stated: 'Staff advised that Mrs. Vaughn acted appropriately and stayed with the victim for several hours until he was situated at the hospital.'

A representative from Vaughn's employer told WREG that she is no longer employed with them and declined to comment further on the matter.

Her husband told the local station he was shocked by the allegations and his wife has worked in the caretaking industry for over 15 years and loves what she does.

He said his wife has genuinely cares for the victim and has even raised concerns about the living conditions at the group home.

Vaughn posted a $50,000 bond on Wednesday and has a hearing scheduled for April 3.
